I had lost too much blood and was rushed straight into the ICU.

As I hovered between life and death, the agonizing memories of my past played on a loop in my mind.

Mike wasn’t my first child.

Before him, I had been pregnant three times.

But Jaxson had taken Ava to see some rogue seer, who claimed that the first three pups of the Alpha’s bloodline would drain Ava’s “life force.”

At first, I had laughed at such a ridiculous superstition.

But that very night, Jaxson had me bound to a hospital bed and forced me to undergo an abortion.

Then came the second time. And the third.

The ghost of that agonizing physical pain seemed to echo through my body, making it hard to breathe.

I woke up gasping, drenched in cold sweat.

“Sweetheart!”

Alistair was sitting right beside my bed, his eyes heavily bloodshot.

He grabbed my hand, his hot tears spilling onto my skin.

“You’re awake. Thank Goddess, you’re awake.”

“Alistair…”

The moment I felt his familiar warmth, I broke down.

I threw my arms around his neck.

“How did it take you so long to find me? Do you know how scared I was?”

“They killed our baby!”

Alistair closed his eyes, his body trembling as he stroked my hair.

“I swear on my Alpha blood, I will make them pay a thousand times over.”

“Florence, I’m here. No one will ever hurt you again.”

I had heard those words once before.

On the day we first met. 

After I was hit by the curse, I had collapsed into a river in the forbidden zone, drifting downstream until Alistair’s yacht crossed my patli.

He had ordered his men to pull me out and summoned the best healers in the territory.

When I first woke up, I thought I was still in Shadowpine. I had screamed, panicked, and even tried to end my

own life.

It was Alistair who held me, patiently whispering comfort into my ear over and over again.

His voice had been like a warm spring breeze.

“I’m here. No one will ever dare to hurt you.”

Because of the curse and the trauma, my mind had wiped my past clean, leaving only the life I built with Alistair.

When I was ready, he proposed to me.

To protect me from the ghosts of my past, we mated privately, planning a grand ceremony after the pup was born.

But because of Jaxson, I had lost another child.

I told Alistair everything that had happened over the last forty–eight hours.

The rage in his eyes was terrifying.

“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have left your side.”

“Rest now, Florence.”

“I will handle everything.”

I nodded quietly.

Alistair had been away on a summit.

His Beta told me that the moment Alistair heard of my disappearance, he had canceled a multi–million dollar contract and flew back, crying on the plane out of sheer panic.

But now that my memories had returned, I couldn’t help but feel a seed of doubt.

Could Alistair truly stay devoted to me forever?

Would he eventually turn into another Jaxson, betraying me and tearing my life apart?

My mind was a chaotic mess. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.

Alistair stood by my bed in silence for a long moment, his hand trembling slightly as he tucked the blanket Larsund my shoulders.

“Wait for me.”

Downstairs, Jaxson and Ava were already screaming at the hospital entrance. Alistair’s warriors kept them firmly blocked.

Alistair walked out, slowly rolling up his sleeves.

The moment his eyes landed on Jaxson, he drove his fist straight into his face.
