My Fiancé Sided With His Mischievous Childhood Friend, Until My Mother‑In‑Law Burst In Chapter 04

My Fiancé Sided With His Mischievous Childhood Friend, Until My Mother‑In‑Law Burst In Chapter 04

The last thread of my self-control snapped.

I lunged for Madison’s phone, and she shrieked as she backed away.

Chloe immediately threw herself between us. “Lily, what are you doing? Don’t hit her!”

As she shouted, she deliberately rammed her arm into my hand.

A second later, she tumbled onto the couch.

Ethan caught her on instinct.

“Enough!” he roared.

The room went silent again.

He seemed to realize how harshly he had spoken. His lips moved. “Lily, I didn’t mean…”

I stopped listening.

I pulled out my phone and found one name.

Victoria Ashford. My mother-in-law.

I was still afraid of her. If this set her off, everything could spiral even further out of control.

But she was the only person I had left to call.

Her low, husky voice came through the phone. “Lily?”

She sounded as if I had woken her. “Why aren’t you asleep?”

I opened my mouth, but all I managed was, “Victoria.”

Then the tears came.

The other end of the line was silent for two seconds. When Victoria spoke again, her words came much faster.

“Where are you?”

“The bridal suite.”

“Is Ethan there?”

I looked at the man standing beside Chloe. “Yes.”

Victoria’s voice turned colder. “Did he hurt you?”

My throat closed.

When Chloe saw me on the phone, she called out with a laugh, “Is Victoria coming to see the bald bride too? Then hurry over! I think Lily looks adorable. Her head is unbelievably smooth. It’s not like touching it will kill her.”

My fingers clenched around the phone.

There was no sound from Victoria.

Then she hung up.

Barely fifteen minutes later, rapid footsteps echoed from the end of the hall. High heels struck the marble, hard and fast.

Ethan spun toward the door.

The next second, someone kicked the suite door open from the outside. It slammed into the wall with a deafening crash.

Victoria stood in the doorway.

A black coat hung over her dark silk robe. Her hair was uncombed, and her lips were pale, but her eyes were terrifyingly cold.

Richard stood behind her with two bodyguards and the hotel’s general manager. He gripped a pill bottle in one hand and braced the other against the doorframe, his expression grim.

Everyone in the room froze.

Victoria ignored them. Her gaze landed on my head.

She crossed the room and lifted a hand toward me, only to stop before touching my skin.

“Does it hurt?”

The tears I had held back all night finally broke loose.

“Yes.”

Chloe was reckless enough to keep provoking her. She approached with the bridesmaids and reached toward my head again.

Victoria closed her eyes for a beat. When she opened them again, her face was a mask of cold fury.

Slowly, she turned and pinned Chloe with her stare.

Then she slapped her.
