Zane walked in with the investigation results.

The so–called evidence phone had been purchased by Serena’s assistant. The chat logs and

transfer screenshots were completely fabricated. But the assistant had disappeared the night

before. The club’s surveillance footage had also been wiped clean.

Zane’s voice was grim: “The Shaws brought in three major shareholders. They want you to face a

board inquiry tomorrow. If you don’t show up, they‘ trigger removal proceedings.”

I looked at Grant. “Can you do this?”

“No.” He answered without hesitation. “If you’re in pain, I can’t even stand.”

“Then what do we do?”

Grant took my hand. “That’s why you need to heal faster.”

“You’re exploiting an injured person.”

“I’ll pay you more.”

“How much more?”

“Ten million.”

I sat up straight immediately. “Doctor – I think I’m ready to be discharged.”

The doctor’s face went green. Grant just laughed.

The next day, we walked into Hale Group’s boardroom together.

I was in a wheelchair. Grant sat beside me.

The shareholders looked at me with barely concealed hostility.

“Mr. Hale – this is a board meeting. Bringing an outsider in – isn’t that against protocol?”

Grant’s voice was calm. “She owns eight percent of Hale Group stock. That’s more than you.”

The man shut up.

Victor Shaw sat across from us with a neurologist in a white coat beside him. Serena was there

too – eyes swollen, playing the victim.

Victor tapped the table. “Mr. Hale – we believe Ms Clarke has been controlling you through drugs and psychological manipulation. This is a neurologist. He can prove that this so–called empathic

connection doesn’t exist.”

Serena wiped away her tears. “Grant, I don’t blame you. You’re a victim too.”

I looked at the expert. “Huh. You look familiar.”

He quickly looked away.

I pulled out my phone and played a recording.

Serena’s voice came through clear and crisp: “Money isn’t a problem. Just prove that Jade drugged Grant. Once I marry into the Hale family, you’ll be well compensated.”

The room went dead silent.

Serena shot up. “Fake! That’s doctored!”

I smiled at her. “Ms. Shaw, your assistant didn’t disappear. She came to me last night and asked

me to pay her more. After all, when it comes to making deals, she trusts a professional gold digger

more.”
