My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 02

My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 02

I had never realized Rowan was this unhappy with me.

I re-opened the screenshots, methodically scrolling through every bile-filled post he’d written.

For a moment, all I felt was a blank, hollow kind of confusion.

Rowan was a high-tier companion, purchased from a premium agency for an exorbitant sum.

He was handsome and proud, but he was also bright and full of life.

I was used to being alone, and I had never really kept anything alive before.

So when I brought a shifter home, I had been extra careful.

I followed the care manual from the agency exactly, setting his sleep schedule, his protein and fiber intake, and his daily exercise plan.

At first, he looked unwilling on the surface, but his behavior was still obedient enough.

When had he started finding fault with everything I did?

I took off my glasses and rubbed my aching temples.

When I opened my eyes again, my gaze landed on one of his messages.

[And the kicker? Her sister is a total knockout. Side by side, Evelyn is just… pathetic.]

That was when I suddenly remembered the day my half sister, Vivienne, had shown up without warning.

I remembered the way Rowan’s eyes had lit up, and how his tail had swished far more eagerly than usual.

Vivienne had always dripped in extravagance and loud, expensive perfumes. She loved judging me even more.

“You dress like you’re on your way to join a convent,” she had said.

“And this whole place reeks of lab chemicals because of you. How does your shifter even stand it?”

She had clicked across my floor in stilettos, then walked into the kitchen and gasped as if she had discovered a crime scene.

“Oh my God, what are you feeding him? Raw mash? That’s disgusting, Evelyn. He’s a shifter, not a wild animal. He deserves a gourmet diet, not this primitive sludge.”

I had said nothing.

I watched as she circled my home like a predator scouting new territory.

“Still not talking? You really are this boring. No wonder nobody likes you, not in this family and not outside it either.”

Her eyes slid toward Rowan, who was standing nearby and staring at her like he had lost his mind.

Then she laughed.

“Look at that. The only one willing to stay with you is someone you had to pay for.”

“Mr.Fox,” she said sweetly, “do you want to come play at my house?”

“My place is so much more fun than this.”

Only then did I speak, my voice cold. “Don’t corrupt my shifter.”

After that, Rowan kept asking about Vivienne, sometimes directly, sometimes in roundabout ways.

I thought he was only curious, so I never paid much attention.

Now, it was clear: the rot had started that very day.

Even the complaints he threw at me, every single one, must have been learned from her that day.

My fingertips tapped lightly against the desk as my gaze shifted toward the bed.

Rowan was still on the bed.

I stood, walked to the bedside, and pulled the blanket back.

Rowan startled. The smile had not even faded from his face before his expression stiffened. Then he glared at me.

“What are you doing?”

I pushed him aside and glanced at his phone without expression.

He had been flirting with Vivienne.

After I brought him home, the house had gained a little warmth, a little life, but nothing more than that.

He had never said anything soft or flirtatious to me. From him, I only ever got arrogant demands and complaints.

So he did know how to flirt after all.

I lowered my eyes and studied him.

His features were sharp and cool cut, with a tiny mole perched like a secret by his eye.

His dark red curls were thick and soft; he was a masterwork of biological grace.

He was very handsome.

Exactly the kind of pretty thing Vivienne liked to play with.

I picked up his phone.

Rowan reached for it.

I straightened and kicked him low in the abdomen, pinning him down into the mattress with one leg.

“Be quiet.”

Rowan winced from the pain, then glared at me. “That’s my privacy!”

“Do pets have privacy?” I asked softly.

His face went pale.

Humiliated and furious, Rowan stopped talking.
