Unfaithful Alpha’s Begging After I Left Chapter 06

Then Vivian’s sticky, cloying voice drifted through the line. “Rhett, who are you talking to? Didn’t you say we’d cut the cake together? Everyone’s waiting…”

The sound suddenly muffled, like a hand was clamped over the receiver.

“…No one. I’m just getting your surprise ready. Be right there… Hey, hold on!”

I didn’t listen to the rest.

There was no need to.

I pressed the end call button.

The world went blissfully silent.

The man who once swore he’d love me for a lifetime had called me from another woman’s victory party.

Absolutely absurd.

Thankfully, I’d already withdrawn every ounce of feeling I’d ever invested in him. His words and actions no longer had the power to wound me.

The atmosphere of my new pack was nothing like I’d imagined.

Everyone kept a proper distance. We fought side by side against vicious rogue wolves when necessary. Once pack related issues were settled, we returned to our own lives, leaving each other in peace.

Slowly, I fell into the rhythm of it. I even started to enjoy being alone.

I never expected Rhett to show in front of me again.

up

He hadn’t known which territory I’d gone to or which pack I’d joined.

Someone must have told him I’d been seen in Moonhold. So he came.

By the time I realized he was here, he was already standing outside my door, arms full of Moonlight Blossoms and desserts from that one bakery.

The one with the impossible line. I’d always loved it.

But back then, it had been a carrot dangled in front of me. I could only stare at it, longing. I had to obey him, back down, stay silent, just for the occasional reward.

And Vivian? She only had to mention it once, and it was hers.

Ridiculous.

The moment Rhett spotted me, his eyes lit up. He hurried closer, clutching his offerings.

His face all but screamed “Look at me, I came all this way to make up with you“. He even adjusted the bouquet against his chest for effect.

“Aurora! Look what I brought you!”

He held up the paper bag and slipped smoothly into his usual coaxing routine.

“I know I messed up. I never thought letting Vivian use my canteen would make you this upset for this

long.”

“I swear, I’ll never let her borrow anything again, Okay?”

He studied my face carefully, then conceded more ground, like he was making some monumental sacrifice.

“I made it clear to her. We’re not contacting each other anymore. She agreed. That’s enough, right? Stop this

now. Please?”

He hung his head, putting on that pitiful, wronged look. The one he knew I could never resist.

Now, I just found it exhausting.

Here we go again.

I’d lost count of how many times we’d done this exact dance.

Besides, our mate bond was already severed. I’d told him. Over and over.

But he was trapped in his own little world, utterly convinced I was just throwing a fit. That if he just lowered himself enough to make the first move, I’d come trotting back like a good little mate.

No matter how many times I repeated myself, no matter how resolute I sounded, he heard nothing but a

child denied a treat.

He believed that if he showed up with flowers and sweets and whispered a few soft words, I’d laugh and fall into his arms and go back to being his naive, obedient Luna.

I was so tired.

Rhett was still standing there, face earnest, making promises he almost seemed to believe himself.

“Aurora, I mean it this time. I’m going to change. I’ll be a-”

His phone rang, cutting him off.

He pulled it out, annoyed and ready to decline the call. Then he saw the caller ID. His Beta. His finger paused.

He answered.

“Yeah? Sandy, what is it? I’m in the middle of…”

The frantic voice on the other end cut him off before he could finish. Loud enough that even I could hear

every word.

“Alpha, it’s bad! Vivian was attacked by a rogue wolf. She fell off a cliff. Her leg is severely injured. She’s unconscious. The healers say she’s still in critical condition!”
