My Fiancé Married My Adopted Sister, Then Called ME the Mistress?! Chapter 04

I cut Thelma off, my eyes locked on Idris.

“I’ll pack my things and leave right now.”

He wanted revenge on me—I wasn’t going to drag Thelma into it.

The moment I reached my desk, the metallic taste flooded my throat again.

Afraid I would spit out blood, I covered my mouth and ran out of the office.

Just as I spat the blood into a trash can, Idris caught up.

Ignoring my struggles, he dragged me into his car and brought me to a furnished apartment.

Before I could speak, he threw a contract at me.

“Sign it.”

I opened it and read a few lines before realizing it was a sugar baby agreement.

I looked up at him.

“Is this your way of making sure I suffer enough? Keep me close so you can torment me?”

I already saw through him—he was never going to let me go easily.

Without money for treatment, I was counting down the days, so I stopped hiding the hatred buried in my heart.

Meeting the raw hatred in my eyes, Idris flew into a rage.

He grabbed my shoulders and shouted, “What right do you have to hate me?”

“Your mother was my father’s secretary! She crawled into his bed while my mom was recovering from a miscarriage!”

“She even texted my mom to twist the knife!”

“If your mother hadn’t been so despicable, why would my mom have broken down and jumped off that building?”

His grip tightened so hard that veins bulged on his forehead.

The pain made my vision go dark. “Idris, my mother never did anything like that.”

Hearing my denial, Idris slapped me across the face.

I lost my balance and collapsed onto the floor.

My cheek burned, and his enraged roar echoed in my ears.

“Still lying! I saw my mom slap your mom right there in that office with my own eyes.”

“And you people never changed!”

“If you want my forgiveness, get your mother to kneel at my mom’s gravestone and apologize!”

Still unsatisfied, he slapped the contract against my face.

“Don’t you love playing the victim to get my sympathy?”

“Sign this agreement, and you won’t need to act anymore. You can go back to work, and I’ll give you back your project.”

A cruel smile curled on his lips, convinced my current desperation was just a ploy to reel him in.

He was dead certain that once he offered me an out, I would willingly become his kept woman.

Looking at his face, overwhelming pain and hatred spread through me.

If not for him, my mother wouldn’t have died from a cerebral hemorrhage.

I wouldn’t have been too disgraced to find decent work.

The one job I’d landed through sheer gratitude—he’d crushed that too.

Even my last hope of survival was crushed.

I did nothing wrong, yet I suffered endless torture.

I hated him.

According to the contract, he would give me fifty thousand dollars a month.

Even if my cancer couldn’t be cured, I could save up to buy two burial plots and be buried beside my mother.

My hands trembled.

That split second of hesitation was all Idris needed.

He seized my wrist, his eyes bloodshot, his voice dripping with contempt. “You’re even cheaper than I thought.”

He shoved me away violently.

A sharp cramp hit my stomach, and my head slammed hard against the floor.

A flicker of panic crossed Idris’s eyes, and he instinctively reached toward me.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Andrea.

He answered, his tone urgent. “What? You’re bleeding? Stay still, I’ll be right there to take you to the hospital.”

He hurried away without looking back.

Blood trickled from the corner of my mouth. I wanted to call out to him, but no sound came out.

After Idris left, he never returned to that apartment.

But three days went by, and he hadn’t seen me at the office either.

He assumed that since I signed the contract, I was just playing hard to get.

He walked over to HR and told Thelma, “Tell Shawna to come to work. If she doesn’t show today, she’s fired.”

Thelma looked at him in confusion. “But Shawna already quit!”

Idris froze.

Thelma’s voice cracked with grief.

“Her mother passed away, she has cancer, and now she lost her job. She’s just counting down the days with whatever medicine she can afford.”
