I’m Done Being My Genius Boyfriend’s Secret Chapter 06

I’m Done Being My Genius Boyfriend’s Secret Chapter 06

I’d been calm-until that line hit me.

Then my eyes burned.

“How did I treat you?” I laughed.

“I stayed away from someone who accused me and tore up my acceptance letter.”

“Was that wrong?”

His face went pale. “I thought you’d hidden Briar’s letter out of spite. I panicked.”

Then he added, like it justified everything,

“Besides, tearing it doesn’t really matter. You can still enroll.”

“It doesn’t change anything.”

I looked at him, cold and hollow.

“Right. It doesn’t change anything.”

“Then why were you so desperate when Briar’s letter went missing?”

He had no answer.

I turned to leave. He grabbed my wrist.

“Kira, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”

He’d never apologized first.

“I’m not choosing Briar over you. You’re the one I like. Not her.”

I laughed bitterly.

“Let me explain it for you.”

“You thought my letter didn’t matter-because I only got into a mediocre school.”

“But Briar’s different. She got into Columbia. Her things are more important.”

He nodded, relieved. “You understand.”

“She’s a top student. She can’t afford any mistakes.”

I pulled my hand free, tears nearly spilling.

“You like me, but you also look down on me.”

“In your head, liking me and sacrificing me don’t conflict.”

He froze.

I stepped back. “Go home.”

“I don’t want to see you anymore.”

“I’m done being the stepping stone for people like you.”

“Just because someone’s grades are lower doesn’t mean they deserve to be treated like less.”

He didn’t leave.

He waited outside the gym.

Followed me to the dining hall. E

ven at Starbucks, he tried to swap my iced americano for a hot latte.

“Your stomach can’t handle cold.”

I didn’t take it. He left it with my roommate instead.

People started noticing the good-looking guy who followed me everywhere.

One girl said, “He’s so devoted to you.”

My roommate snorted. “If he has to chase this hard, whatever he did must have been bad. Anyone

can have him.”

I paused.

She didn’t know the story-but she saw right through it.

That night, someone asked, “Who even is he?”

I almost said no one.

But what came to mind wasn’t the torn letter.

It was the rain when he gave me his only umbrella.

The time he carried me to the nurse’s office, grumbling about how clumsy I was.

The night he stayed by my hospital bed when my stomach hurt for the first time.

He used to be good to me.

Then Briar came.

He started talking about her all the time-how smart she was, how they clicked like two halves of the same person.

They studied together, competed together, planned everything together.

I couldn’t keep up.

Every time we were in the same room, I felt like an extra.

Then graduation photo day-he pushed me aside and put her next to him.

When I asked for help with applications, he brushed me off-but filled pages of notes for her. And

when her letter went missing, he tore mine in front of me.

“He says he likes me,” I said, laughing dryly.

“But even when he likes me, he keeps choosing other people.”

The room went silent.

Finally, my roommate said, “He’s messed up.”

The next day, Tristan left.

Before he went, he sent word:

School’s calling me back. I have to go. Wait for me, Kira.

I didn’t reply.

I thought it was over.

Then a few days later, my roommate burst into the room.

“Kira-someone’s spreading rumors about you online.”
