Mafia Heir, You Have 60 Seconds to Text Me Back Chapter 05

Mafia Heir, You Have 60 Seconds to Text Me Back Chapter 05

To keep Alec firmly under control, I agreed to meet his inner circle a week later.

In public, I played the sweet, soft–spoken honors student who was hopelessly in love with him.

In private? I blocked and unblocked him an average of three times a day.

I’d infuriate the Mafia prince to the point of explosion, only for him to talk himself out of his own temper and

come crawling back.

It was all because I knew every single detail about his habits, likes, and dislikes. Alec convinced himself that

unless a girl was deeply, obsessively in love with him, there was no way she could know him this intimately.

Later that evening, Alec was hanging out with his friends in the private lounge of an off–campus estate.

The phone rang.

He snatched up his phone, then visibly relaxed when he saw the notification wasn’t from me.

Clara’s temper was out of control lately!

If he didn’t reply within sixty seconds, he got hit with an automatic block. And every time she blocked him,

she made him wait longer before letting him contact her again.

Yesterday, Clara had even refused the dinner his family chef sent to her dorm. He was furious!

Yet, he didn’t dare stop sending it. Rule 52 clearly stated: When your girlfriend is mad, you fix it. Period.

His fraternity brothers kept telling him that when a girl acts this needy and demanding, it’s just because she lacks security and loves him too much.

He had texted Clara an hour ago, but hadn’t gotten a single word back.

Where had he messed up this time?

He racked his brain, searching for an answer. The last time he pissed her off, it was because she’d had a

nightmare at three in the morning, and he’d been sound asleep, missing her call by two minutes.

He hastily typed out a series of messages:

[Alec]: What are you doing?

[Alec]: What do you want to eat tonight? What time? Want to go out or have it delivered to your dorm? Pick

from these menus.

[Alec]: One of the guys invited me to his birthday thing at a private racetrack tonight. Just letting you know.

[Alec]: The guy who invited me is Silas Vance–your roommate’s stepcousin.

He panicked the instant he sent the last line, tapping Unsend within a split second, leaving only the first half.

He’d almost forgotten Rule 1: No mentioning other females.

That was a close call. He’d almost gotten blocked again.

Alec kept checking his screen, fidgeting with an unlit cigarette. Clara hadn’t texted him in three straight hours, and the silence was making him deeply uneasy.

Silas Vance, leaning against the billiard table, spoke up. “Hey Alec, hitting the track with us later?”

Alec gritted his teeth, his eyes glued to his phone. “Can’t. Got to be with my girlfriend tonight.”

Sienna, sitting on a plush velvet sofa across from him, let out a light scoff. “Your little scholar girlfriend is

that clingy? You can actually tolerate that? I never thought you were into the needy type.”

A senior fraternity brother chimed in with a laugh, “Girls who are too sweet get boring fast. Fine for a fling, sure. But if you’re marrying into a family like yours, you need someone with dignity and poise like Sienna.”

The freshman boyfriend sitting beside Sienna added casually, “I’ve only been doing track days for a month, Rossi. Was hoping to go head–to–head with you. You’re not using a girl as an excuse to dodge me because you’re scared of getting run off the track, are you?”

The air in the VIP room went instantly still.

Alec had a notorious reputation on the track, and he was infamous for his short fuse. The last guy who tried to force Alec off the track ended up in a ditch and spent three months in the hospital.

Sienna cast a warning glance at Silas. “Don’t take it too far, Silas.”

Silas smirked, twirling a pool cue. “What’s wrong, Sienna? Are you worried about Alec, or your little boy toy

there?”

Sienna went silent. Her silence hung in the room like a quiet, unspoken confirmation.

Everyone turned to look at Alec.

In terms of lineage, status, and power, the Rossi and Vance heirs were the ultimate match. Before this, Alec had spent three loud, ostentatious months pursuing Sienna across campus. To the insiders in this room, no

one took his new “scholar girlfriend” seriously.

Floating comments sighed across my vision:

[Tonight Alec is going to race against that guy for the female lead’s sake. Anyone with eyes can see who he actually cares about.]

[Clara is doomed. Tomorrow at the Greek house, she’s literally front–row for Alec and Sienna’s cinematic game–of–dares kiss. Pure torture incoming.]

[If I were Clara, I’d go crazy.]

I glanced at the floating text, my expression turning utterly ice–cold.

Opening my chat with Alec, I typed out a few heartbreaking, pitiful messages:

[Clara]: I’m sorry.

[Clara]: I didn’t mean to ignore your texts earlier. I have a really bad fever right now, and my head hurts so

bad.

[Clara]: If you want to break up with me… please just tell me in advance. Don’t lie to me.

After sending the tragic, defenseless messages, I immediately switched my phone to Do Not Disturb and

tossed it on my bed.

No fever. Completely lying just to mess with his head.

In the VIP lounge, Alec’s expression changed instantly the moment he read the screen.

Something was terribly wrong–why on earth was Clara apologizing to him out of nowhere?!

Alec stood up, casting a chilling, predatory glare around the room.

“Clara’s sick with a fever. I’m leaving,” he spat coldly.

He paused at the door, his dark eyes locking onto Sienna with a sharp, lethal warning. “If a single word about

our little bet leaks to her, you’ll answer to me personally.”

Sienna’s face drained of color.

Alec’s final warning had been directed straight at her.

Noticing the dark shift in atmosphere, Silas stepped in to smooth things over. “Alright, alright. It’s getting late

anyway. We’ve got the house party tomorrow. Let’s call it a night.”

As he walked Alec out to his sports car, Silas suddenly lowered his voice, his tone laced with venom. “The Vances and Rossis are already negotiating a major partnership–and everyone knows an engagement is part of it. My sister has plenty of high–society suitors lined up, Alec. Don’t do something you’ll regret.”

Silas leaned in slightly. “Or are you genuinely falling for a girl with zero family backing, whose looks can’t

even hold a candle to Sienna? It’s just a stupid bet. Tie yourself to a nobody over a stupid bet, and every

family on the East Coast will laugh at you.”

Alec’s footsteps paused for a fraction of a second. He didn’t turn back.

“Keep your damn mouth shut.”

SLAM!

The car door shut heavily, the engine roaring to life.

Even if Clara hadn’t sent those texts, he wouldn’t have gone to the track tonight anyway.

He realized with a touch of delayed self–awareness that after being driven insane by Clara every single day, he’d actually grown immune to petty provocation. Hearing those guys try to bait him hadn’t even nudged his

heart rate.

Back in the lounge, Silas flashed a sly, calculated look at Sienna.

“For tomorrow’s party, I’ve rigged the Truth or Dare game,” Silas whispered smoothly. “All you have to do is

admit in front of everyone that you only took on a new boyfriend to make him jealous. If you keep playing

hard to get, Alec is actually going to slip through your fingers.”
