The Top Score That Brought The Army Chapter 03

Everyone turned toward Yana, their eyes filled with scorn.

“So much for being a top student. She needs her rich boyfriends to buy her grades.”

“Shh, or she’ll have them come after you.”

Yana broke down, crying uncontrollably.

Red-eyed, she snapped at Wayne. “I don’t need money to get first place! You’re humiliating me!”

She spun around and ran off.

Wayne hurried after her to soothe her for a long while, while Amon stood by, fuming. “That wretched Angie!”

Magnus Vale, the heir of the Vale family, leaned against a pillar in the hallway.

He spoke up lazily, a playful smirk on his face.

“I have an idea.” His beautiful eyes held a glint of reckless malice. “A nerd like her has obviously never been in love.”

“How about I ask her out? Once she actually thinks I like her, I’ll dump her coldly. She’ll be too busy crying to study.”

The others exchanged knowing looks, their eyes gleaming.

I had no clue what scheme they were hatching.

When school let out, I headed home. I pushed open the ten-foot-tall ornately carved iron gate.

The second I stepped into the living room, a crowd of sharpsuited toughs all twisted around to stare at me.

Any one of them alone was intimidating enough to make ordinary bystanders freeze in terror.

The moment they saw me, every face lit up with broad grins.

“Look who’s back! Our top student!”

“Our little genius! You’ve gotten skinnier. Is the school food bad?”

I greeted them one by one.

“Hi, Mr. Crowe. How are orders going over at KillNow? Business booming?”

The scarred man laughed heartily.

“Don’t worry, kiddo, I took seven big contracts last month. Busy as a bee!”

“Mr. Salem, I heard you cleared out three rival turf spots last month. Still keeping up?”

The usually stern gang leader cracked a massive grin.

“You’re well-informed, little girl! Don’t worry, I’ve still got plenty of fight left in me!”

After saying hello to everyone, my parents finally squeezed through the crowd.

Both of them rocked matching, eye-searing rainbow hair, looking like two giant Skittles standing side by side.

My lip twitched. “…What is with this look?”

Dad scratched his head, offering a goofy smile. “Your mom said it’s the trendy ‘Sunshine Rainbow’ look that kids love these days. Sweetheart, do you like it?”

I forced a faint smile. “It’s… unique.”

I swung my backpack off my shoulder.

“I’m going to go study. Finals are in a month.”

Dad let out a dramatic sigh.

“Ah, this kid is great in every way, except she works too hard!”

“Nothing like her mom and me back in the day—always busy fighting, skipping class, and getting into romance.”

Mr. Crowe slapped him on the shoulder. “Quit showing off. You ought to count your blessings for a daughter who tops every exam.”

The room erupted into laughter.

I headed upstairs to my bedroom. No sooner had I set down my bag than my phone vibrated.

It was a friend request.

The note read: [I’m Magnus. Wanna be friends? I think you’re very different from other girls.]

I stared at the screen for a few seconds, smiling faintly.

Then I opened my door and shouted downstairs with all my strength, “Dad! I’m about to get a boyfriend!”

The living room went dead silent instantly.

Dad’s eyes widened, his rainbow hair practically standing on end.

“WHAT? Which bastard kid is it?”

I ignored him, slammed the door shut, and accepted Magnus’s request.

Over the next month, Magnus started pursuing me.

A cup of warm milk on my desk every morning.

Standing at my classroom door right when school ended.

Taking me out on dates over the weekend.

Sitting next to me during evening study sessions—never turning a single page, just staring at me with deep affection.

We were practically inseparable.

He clung to me from morning till night, dragging me all over town, leaving me zero time to study.

At the same time, he grew cold and distant toward Yana.

She came to find him crying several times, but he coldly brushed her off.

The school forum blew up:

[Magnus switches targets, falls for number one in the grade.]

[Has the scholarship girls fairy tale finally come to an end?]

Yana’s supporters cursed me behind my back for being shameless.

I ignored every bit of it.

Finally, finals ended.

The day before grades were released, Magnus asked me to meet him on the school rooftop.

When I arrived, Amon, Wayne, and Asher Blackwood—the heir of the Blackwood family—were all there.

The four of them stood in a line, shielding Yana in the center.

Magnus stood with his hands in his pockets, chin raised, his tone careless and arrogant.

“Angie, let’s break up. Game’s over.”

He turned to Yana, his voice softening.

“See? Everything between her and me was fake. I was just playing with her.”

Yana wiped her tears, a smile breaking through, though she huffed, “Who cares who you like?”

Magnus turned back to me, no longer hiding his malice.

“Angie, I never liked you. Every single day I spent with you made me sick.”

“I only did this so you wouldn’t have time to study. Let’s see how you take first place now.”

He paused, his voice turning even colder.

“Turns out you’re just another shallow girl. You took the bait the moment I showed you the slightest bit of interest.”

He smirked, waiting for me to break down in tears.

I burst out laughing. “Is that so?”

I tilted my head. “Sure, let’s break up, then.”

Magnus clearly didn’t expect me to react so calmly. He froze for a second.

“Keep acting tough. Let’s see if you’re still laughing once the results come out.”

Just then, everyone’s phone vibrated.

It was the grade notification sent out by the administration.

“Grades are out!”

Magnus shot me a smug look and unlocked his phone.

The next second, the color drained from his face.
