They Called Me a Submarine. On Bid Day, I Stunned Them All Chapter 05

I stopped right in front of them as the countdown hit zero.

The noise died.

Dozens of eyes locked onto me.

Someone froze mid-drink. Someone else still had a grin frozen on their face.

The buzz-cut guy closest to me blinked.

“Hey… you looking for someone? You here for Bid Day?”

Another guy jumped in: “With looks like that? Definitely getting a bid.”

“You can sit over here.”

The guy who’d been shouting the countdown was suddenly all smiles,

Now pulling out a chair for me.

“Here, sit with us.”

I didn’t move.

My eyes went to the cake in the center of the table.

The red letters stood out:

Welcome, 200-Pound Goddess

Two chairs were set beside it.

Clearly waiting for someone.

Someone followed my gaze, reached over, and pushed the cake aside.

“Just a joke. Stupid thing.”

“Want a slice? We’ll cut you one.”

I almost laughed.

That cake was for me.

Justin was watching from the couch.

He’d sat up straight, his eyes locked on me for way too long.

The contempt was gone-replaced by something else.

Rachel sat beside him.

She let go of his arm and sat up straighter.

“Are you a freshman too?”

“I’m Rachel-Magnolia. Which sorority are you rushing?”

Before I could answer, the crowd jumped in.

“She’s the most gorgeous one in Magnolia. She’s an influencer.”

“What’s your major?”

“I don’t remember seeing you in the freshman chat.”

“Are you in the group? I can add you.”

Question after question.

The same people who’d laughed at me two minutes ago were now tripping over themselves to be

nice.

Rachel’s smile tightened.

Someone whispered: “If she rushes Magnolia, she’d be the face of the house.”

She heard it. Her hand went to her hair.

Justin stood up. “Are you going here too? I’m Justin.”

“Can I get to know you?”

His voice was softer now.

Nothing like the cold tone from the video.

Before I could answer, Finn walked over.

“Finn! You finally showed up.” The buzz-cut guy elbowed him.

“You missed it. Your 200-pound girl never came.”

“How about you do the three tasks with this one instead?”

Others chimed in. “You think she’d go for him?”

“Hey, he’s got the face for it.”

Laughter filled the room again.

Finn stayed quiet.

He just stood beside me, his expression complicated.

Justin straightened his collar and stepped closer.

“I know the campus pretty well. Want me to show you around?”

I didn’t answer.

I walked over to the two chairs.

Everyone followed me with their eyes.

I glanced at the red letters on the cake-then looked up and smiled at the room.

“I don’t think we’ve properly met yet.”

“I’m Allie.”
