Pierce followed my gaze and noticed Saskia at the door.

His voice softened instantly.

“Saskia, this doesn’t involve you.”

“Don’t listen. Don’t take it to heart.”

Then he turned back to me-and the warmth vanished.

“Linnea, what turned you into this?”

“Bitter, jealous, suspicious of the people closest to you?”

I stared at him, the absurdity finally settling in.

In Pierce’s world, as long as nothing was caught on camera-it wasn’t real.

Flirting, favoritism, emotional cheating-none of it counted.

As long as I hadn’t walked in on them in bed, they were innocent.

My feelings, my pain-they were just me being difficult.

Just as things were reaching a boiling point, my phone rang.

My boss.

Probably to confirm the overseas assignment details.

Before I could answer, Pierce grabbed the phone and hung up.

He glanced at the screen, then smiled coldly.

“Linnea.”

“You’ve always been the steady one. But lately-you’re out of control.”

“You keep accusing me and Saskia of being inappropriate. But look at yourself.”

He shoved the screen in my face.

Boss.

“Tell me what decent boss calls his employee this late?”

“If you want to break up, just say it.”

“Don’t make up some cheap excuse to flip the blame.”

Sweat beaded on his forehead. He was nervous.

I laughed quietly.

If he’d just said it-

“I never loved you. It was always her.”

I might’ve respected him.

But this? This act was just pathetic.

Saskia seized the moment.

“Linnea’s always been good and sensible.”

“She wouldn’t scheme like this. She must’ve been misled by the wrong people.”

Her eyes soft, her tone soothing-her intentions crystal clear.

“Linnea, I know you. This isn’t who you really are.’

She reached for me, trying to pull me back to Pierce’s side.

Playing the loving sister again.

“Linnea, I know you. This isn’t who you are.”

“Whatever’s out there-it doesn’t matter.”

“What matters is who’s been here. Ten years.”

“You can hate me. I don’t care.”

“But don’t do this to Pierce.”

I heard none of it.

What I remembered was the year Pierce couldn’t afford food.

I stole meals from home and passed them to him across the balcony.

Back then, I never imagined he’d build a billion-dollar company.

I never expected anything in return.

I just-felt sorry for him.

Crying and shoving food into his mouth.

One night, watching a woman in designer clothes walk by, he’d said,

“If I had money, I’d buy you all of that.”

To protect his pride, I shook my head.

“I don’t like that kind of stuff.”

His eyes were so earnest.

His cheeks flushed. “But I want to give you everything I think is good.”

Saskia pulled out the bag from behind her.

“Linnea, if this is what’s upsetting you-then I don’t want it.”

She glanced at Pierce, her voice hesitant.

“Pierce, you need to appreciate her.”

“She’s young. Men outside can be tempting.”

“I appreciate the thought. But don’t let this ruin what you have.”

She held the bag out to me.

I looked down-and spotted the cheap logo immediately.

A fake. A few hundred bucks.

In exchange for her reputation as the “generous sister.”

Saskia had always been good at this.

And Pierce always fell for it.

Maybe they were meant for each other.

But none of it mattered anymore.

After tonight-there would be no more schemes.

No more Pierce.
