The search lasted for three days.

They found no body.

And no sign that Elena was alive.

The Coast Guard officially listed her as missing. External

inquiries consisted of a few brief interviews before the case

went cold.

What truly decided Luca’s fate was the Moretti family’s

internal review.

Elena had vanished on their wedding day, and Luca had

been proven to have betrayed her. Worse, she had

disappeared in Moretti-controlled waters while wearing his

ring.

That meant one of two things.

Either he had driven the woman he’d promised to protect to

her death.

Or he couldn’t even protect the woman at his side.

Either one was enough for the family heads to deny him their loyalty.

Luca was brought into the family conference room and made

to surrender his gun, his car keys, and all authority over

personnel. He remained there for forty-eight hours.

From across the long table, the same questions were fired at him again and again.

“Why did you leave the country with Bianca before the wedding?”

“What happened in that hotel video?”

“Did you threaten Elena before she disappeared?”

“Why would she rather die than become your wife?”

All Luca could do was repeat the same broken phrases. “I didn’t hurt her. I love her. I didn’t know she would…”

No one spoke up for him.

When the meeting ended, his father suspended him from his

position as second-in-command and froze his status as heir.

It wasn’t a legal judgment.

It was the family’s verdict on an heir who had lost control.

Luca returned to the dock and stared out at the gray water that had swallowed Elena.

He remembered the night he left, how she had smiled and

said goodbye.

She had already decided to leave him then.

That had been their last moment together.

Luca raised a hand and slapped himself, hard, across the
