The Luna Who Owed Them Nothing Chapter 06

The Luna Who Owed Them Nothing Chapter 06

The entire hallway falls silent.

Mom suddenly looks up, confusion filling her eyes.

“What $20,000 tuition? What counterfeit money?”

Dad does not answer. Instead, he turns to Damon, his voice turning cold, “Did you do it?”

Damon’s face changes immediately. He quickly shakes his head.

“No, I didn’t. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Dad’s gaze moves away from him and finally lands on Eden.

The moment Eden realizes all three of them are staring at her, she instinctively tries to lie.

“It wasn’t me…”

But the panic in her voice already gives away her guilt.

She grits her teeth and lifts her chin, still carrying the fearless attitude she has grown up with

because she has always been spoiled.

“I just don’t understand why Dad gave her money! Weren’t we clear about this? Once she turned eighteen, we weren’t supposed to take care of her anymore!”

Dad takes a deep breath, forcing down the anger rising in his chest. He does his best to keep his voice calm, “That $20,000 is her tuition for all four years of college. It’s only $20,000. It’s not even as much as one of the bags we buy you without thinking twice. Why would you touch that money?”

It is the first time in Eden’s life that Dad has ever scolded her like this.

Her eyes instantly turn red, tears welling up.

She bites her lower lip, ready to defend herself, but before she can say anything, Mom’s phone rings again, “Hello, is this Aria’s mother?”

A gentle but anxious female voice comes from the other end.

“I’m her history teacher, Mrs. Blake. Aria’s phone has been unreachable, so I had no choice but to

contact you.”

“She’s our school’s Valedictorian this year, and the first S-rank she-wolf from our school to be accepted into Royal Fang Academy. We’d like to invite her back next Wednesday to share her college and training experience with the younger students. Do you know if she’ll be available?”

Mrs. Blake’s words are the final blow.

Mom’s hand begins to tremble violently around the phone. Several seconds pass before she finally manages to force out the words.

“Mrs. Blake, Aria… she’s been in an accident. She’s at the pack hospital right now.”

There is silence on the other end for several seconds. Then comes the sharp sound of a chair being pushed back.

“Which pack hospital?” Mrs. Blake’s voice changes instantly, “I’m coming right now!”

Less than an hour later, Mrs. Blake rushes to the hospital.

She runs all the way to the emergency room and asks breathlessly, “Where’s Aria? How is she?”

During all three years of high school, this is the first time she has ever truly met Aria’s parents.

Only now does she learn that the girl who always keeps to herself, excels academically, and trains harder than anyone else is actually the daughter of this pack’s Alpha and Luna.

Mom raises a hand and points toward the emergency room.

Her eyes are still swollen and red.

Mrs. Blake follows her gesture. The moment she sees the words IN SURGERY on the electronic screen, her eyes turn red as well.

“Aria is one of the most well-behaved students I’ve ever taught.”

Her voice is hoarse, filled with genuine concern.

“She’s never late or absent. She pays attention in class, and she never slacks off during training. For three whole years, she never complains once.”

She pauses before continuing, “Whenever the school collects fees for supplies, she’s always the last student to pay. I thought your family might be struggling financially, so I even helped her apply for financial aid.”

“But she refused. She told me her family had plenty of money.”

Mom’s face slowly turns pale.

Mrs. Blake does not notice and continues reminiscing.

“Whenever she ranks first, all the other students’ parents come to the parent-teacher meetings. You were the only parents who never showed up.”

“I asked her about it once. She said you were both too busy with work. So I stopped asking.”

She gives a bitter smile, her eyes growing redder, “Because every time I asked, her eyes were swollen the next day.’

Mom’s lips begin to tremble.

Mrs. Blake looks at them, unable to understand.

“I’ve been teaching for many years. I’ve taught hundreds of students.”

“But you’re the first parents I’ve ever met who never came to a single parent-teacher meeting.”

She pauses and looks at the Alpha and Luna standing before her.

“Do you know how jealous the other parents are of you? Because you have such an exceptional daughter.”

The moment she finishes speaking, Mom can no longer hold back. She breaks down sobbing.

Dad stands to the side with his back turned to everyone, his shoulders trembling slightly.

Even Damon, who has always disliked Aria the most, lowers his head and clenches his fists so tightly that his nails dig into his palms.

Eden presses her lips together, as if she still wants to say something. But this time, not a single

word comes out.

That night, the emergency room doors finally open.

The pack doctor removes his mask and speaks wearily, “The patient is out of immediate danger for

now.”

Everyone lets out a collective breath of relief.

But his next words make their hearts tighten again, “She suffered severe head trauma and has bleeding in her brain. We still can’t tell when she’ll wake up. Even if she does wake up, we can’t guarantee that she won’t have lasting complications.”

Mom’s legs give out, and she drops to her knees.

No one leaves that night. No one truly sleeps.

For the first time, they sit together in silence, all waiting for the girl they once drove out of their home to wake up.

And in the intensive care unit, Aria lies quietly in her hospital bed, her face pale and her head wrapped in layers of bandages.

She has no idea that, outside her room, the four people who once cast her aside are finally beginning to fear losing her.
