The footage was dark. Grainy. Security-camera quality.

On the screen, Julian stood in front of a bathroom mirror, brushing adhesive onto his face. Then he pressed a silicone mask into place–and Dorian stared back.

Vanessa stood behind him, her arms around his waist, laughing.

“Julian, that little brat scratched my face today. You’d better make her pay.”

Julian’s face went gray. He ran toward the back of the room, screaming, “Turn it off! Turn it off now!”

But it was too late.

The screen changed.

Nighttime. A private road.

Bright floodlights.

A little girl screamed and cried as Julian tied her to the back of his Porsche with thick rope.

“Daddy! It hurts! Daddy, please!”

Julian sat in the driver’s seat. His eyes were empty. Crazy.

He hit the gas.

The sneakers sparked against the asphalt. They wore through. The small shape on the rope became smaller.

Then darker. Then unrecognizable.

“Oh my God.”

The ballroom erupted in screams.

Men in tuxedos backed away from Julian like he was a rabid animal.

He collapsed on the floor, staring at the screen, lips shaking.

“No… that was a doll… Elise faked that…”

“Is that right?”

A low voice came from the entrance.

It sounded exactly like Julian’s.

Everyone turned.

A man in a wheelchair was pushed in by Harrison’s security. He wore a light gray suit. His face was pale and

scarred-wasted from years of being hidden.

This was the real Dorian Roth.

The brother Julian had kept locked in a basement for three years. The brother whose identity he’d stolen.

Whose shares he’d taken. Whose life he’d erased.

Julian broke completely.

He looked at me with begging eyes.

I just reached into my clutch and pulled out a wet, dirty shoe.

I threw it in his face.

“Ninety-nine laps, Julian.”

My voice was flat. Dead.

“Now it’s your turn.”
