My Fiancé Took Her on Vacation Instead of Marrying Me? I Married WAY Better Chapter 11

Of course I remembered.

Ethan had been a wreck back then, sleeping in the office for a month straight. I stayed up with him, rafting proposals, chasing clients. Then, miraculously, the company landed three big deals and came back from the dead.

Adrian leaned back in his seat, his tone calm. “Those three orders were arranged by your

grandfather.”

My head buzzed. I went completely still.

“And it wasn’t just those three. Over the years, the biggest force behind Ethan Hale’s company reaching where it is today has been the Wright family. Your grandfather just never let anyone tell

you.”

He paused, then repeated slowly: “Old Mr. Wright said, ‘Since she chose that boy, I’ll pave the road for her. No matter how it ends, at least she won’t have to suffer too much.””

Thud. The teacup hit the table, tea splashing over my hand. But I didn’t even feel it.

Eight years.

I’d always thought Grandpa was angry at me. Angry that I’d turned against my family for a man. Angry that I’d insisted on leaving the Wrights.

But he’d never let go.

He’d just stood where I couldn’t see him, quietly holding me up.

Bitterness and guilt surged through me all at once. Tears spilled down my face.

All these years-what kind of man had I hurt the people who loved me most for?

Adrian didn’t say a word. He just handed me a handkerchief.

I didn’t take it. I stared at the table, refusing to fall apart completely in front of a stranger.

He didn’t push. He set the handkerchief on the table. Then, without warning, he pulled me gently into his arms and reached up to lower the window shade.

The small space went dark.

“Cry,” he said, his voice low. “After we land, the Wright heiress of The Sterling Circle shouldn’t

shed another tear over trash.”

That sentence was the last straw.

I finally broke down in the darkness.

Crying for my own stupidity. Crying for how little I was worth to him. Crying for the love that was finally, truly over.

Adrian never asked questions. He just stayed with me, silent, letting me pour out eight years of hurt

all at once.
