I Made a Bracelet for the Man Who Didn’t Love Me, and He Wore It for Two Years Chapter 07

I found a new roommate.

My grandmother had her surgery.

She still needed to stay in the hospital for a while to recover.

Everything seemed to be getting better.

Once things calmed down, I thought of Cole again.

I sent another follow request.

This time, I added a message telling him I was Claire Bennett.

And that I’d like to see him.

He ignored me completely.

Maybe once he knew I was alive and well, he’d stopped caring.

I left it at that.

Two weeks later, though, I ran into Sophie.

She was out shopping with Vivian.

When she saw me, she froze.

She didn’t come over.

Vivian, meanwhile, lit up when she saw me and insisted I come to her birthday party the following

month.

That evening, Sophie called me.

“Vivian was your roommate? Seriously? What are the odds?”

“Yeah. I couldn’t believe it either.”

Two years earlier, Sophie had seen me coming out of Grant’s room.

The marks on me had been impossible to miss.

She’d been furious.

“I treated you like my best friend, and you were secretly into Grant? I guess that’s partly on me. I

never told you he was in love with someone else. I always thought he’d end up with Vivian. Once she came back, I knew they’d get back together sooner or later.”

After that, Sophie and I had stopped speaking.

Now, somehow, she sounded as if she wanted to put it behind us.

“You don’t… still like him, do you?”

I held the phone and said softly, “No.”

Sophie sounded relieved.

“Good. Then we can catch up at Vivian’s birthday. Let’s just leave all that in the past. Grant hasn’t mentioned you once in two years anyway.”

Maybe it was the shock of hearing from an old friend again.

Or maybe that last line simply hit harder than I wanted it to.

My eyes stung.

“I don’t think I can make it. Work’s been crazy.”

The line went quiet for a moment.

“Claire, we used to be friends. You really can’t show up for one night?”

My room was dark.

I pulled the blanket tighter around myself. After a long silence, I said,

“Okay. I’ll be there.”
