The System Said I Wasn’t the Heroine, So I Left My Alpha and He Broke Down Chapter 14

Bonus Chapter: Adrian’s POV

I like her. God, I like her so much. Every time Elena comes near me, my wolf recognizes her before

my mind does.

Even the slightest touch from her sends a shiver straight through my bones. And when she bites me? That destroys every bit of self-control I have.

Ever since I realized I was in love with Elena, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve thanked my younger self for becoming the one she depended on whenever her biting dependency flared up. Somehow, little-kid me made a decision that turned out ridiculously well for me. Once, Elena and I passed a fragrance shop near Pike Place Market.

She said the pine and cedar scent inside smelled amazing. I actually went back later and asked about the fragrance blend. But I didn’t want her breathing in strong artificial fragrance every time

she leaned close enough to bite me.

She was going to be close to my skin whenever she bit me anyway. So I started experimenting with gentler pine-and-cedar bath soaks until the notes she loved clung more strongly to my natural Alpha scent. I’d simmer dried pine needles, cedar chips, and a little juniper in water, then pour the

infusion into my bath.

I’ve been doing it for years. Elena always thought that was simply how I smelled naturally. Of course an Alpha has his own scent.

I just deliberately made the pine notes she loved much more noticeable. Eventually, I wasn’t satisfied with her leaving bite marks on my arms anymore. I deliberately coaxed her into biting my

neck, closer to my scent gland.

The first time her teeth gently closed over that spot, it felt as if my entire wolf had caught fire. Every single time, I would start trembling uncontrollably, and my eyes would even water from the rush of excitement and pleasure. I loved it.

God, I was even more addicted to it than Elena, and she was the one with the biting dependency. My friends used to tell me to just confess. But the more I liked her, the more terrified I became of changing what we already had.

I was terrified Elena would pull away. If she stopped needing me, if she started avoiding me, And then Elena changed anyway. She started avoiding me.

I’d die.

She refused the cake I brought her every day. She said she was going on a diet. The moment she suddenly started refusing desserts, my first thought was that there must be someone she cared

about now.

Someone she wanted to change herself for. The thought drove me insane. There had never been anyone close to her all these years except me.

Except that nerd. Then she accidentally drank from my cup. I was so happy I nearly lost control of

my scent right there.

Later, I washed the cup carefully and put it away with all the little things she no longer wanted over the years. I wanted to ask Elena why she’d gone home without waiting for me. Then I looked up and

saw her hanging laundry.

Black and white lace. Every intimate image that had only ever appeared in my dreams flooded my

mind all at once. I turned around almost immediately and left.

That night, I was so hot and restless I didn’t sleep at all. But the next thing Elena told me erased every bit of that heat. She said she’d gone home with that nerd the day before.

She said she didn’t need me anymore. She said she was going to see a behavioral therapist. She was lying. The bite marks on her wrist were obvious. She wasn’t better. She simply didn’t want to come

to me anymore.

She walked away so quickly and caught up with that nerd. Then the two of them disappeared from my sight. Everything blurred. I couldn’t tell whether the sunlight was too bright or whether my eyes

were filling with tears.

My chest hurt so badly I couldn’t even make myself follow them right away.

Our one secret. Her biting dependency, the one thing that had always been mine to share with her.

She told Ryan about it. I became convinced that after all these years, Elena had finally started understanding romantic feelings. She’d finally started liking someone. It just wasn’t me.

She started rejecting me constantly.

My touch. My help. Even the juice I’d brought her every day for years.

That had been our routine since we were children. The panic almost destroyed what little self-control I had left, and eventually I did something awful.

I threatened the guy with glasses. The behavioral therapist I offered to take Elena to was actually

the same therapist who had been helping me deal with my Alpha possessiveness. I realized two

years ago that my possessiveness toward Elena had become obsessive to the point of madness.

She’d been biting me one day, her head lowered against my neck, and for one terrifying second, I wanted her to bite deep enough to rupture the vein beneath my skin. Sometimes my thoughts went even further. I wanted her completely covered in my scent.

I wanted her to hold me tightly. I wanted her to stay with me forever, the way a true mate would.

Once I realized my Alpha possessiveness had crossed into something unhealthy, I went to a

behavioral therapist.

That therapist had seen pictures of Elena before. So when I asked him to cooperate with me and make sure she didn’t quit me cold turkey, he refused immediately. But for some reason, after I actually brought Elena into his office, he still helped me a little.

In the end, he only agreed to give genuinely safe advice. With mutual consent and clear boundaries) familiar scent could be used to gradually replace the old biting habit. Elena didn’t fully understand everything he was saying, while I kept writing in my notebook.

After the appointment, I looked down at the pages and frowned. I hadn’t written down a single thing the therapist had actually said. The notebook was filled with nothing but the thoughts I’d lost

control of.

Elena hugging me. Elena biting me. How close her scent would be.

I ripped the pages out and threw them into the trash. As if doing that could somehow make those filthy thoughts disappear too. Elena was unhappy because I’d threatened Ryan into avoiding her, and I felt like I couldn’t breathe.

I should’ve been glad. Instead, seeing Elena unhappy made me start thinking that maybe I could accept her loving someone else. As long as she… stopped looking so miserable. When she fell into my arms, my entire body shook.

Nine days and thirteen hours.

That was how long it had been since we’d been that close. Elena, I missed you so much I thought I was losing my mind. But Elena still didn’t like me.

Elena wanted to bite someone else. If I hadn’t appeared when I did, she would’ve bitten Ryan’s arm. I stood there watching them, and my whole body went cold and numb.

She and Ryan had made up. She was happy again. And I was miserable. Would Ryan spend two hours

every day soaking in a pine-and-cedar bath just so she’d like his scent? Would Ryan even groom his wolf form so carefully that his fur would never feel prickly against her lips when she bit him?

Would Ryan ever love her the way I did? I couldn’t take it anymore. So I went to Elena’s house and

knocked on her door.

I’d waited all these years for her to finally start understanding her own feelings. There was no way I could stand there and watch her walk toward someone else. I was going to seduce Elena one last

time.

That time, I stayed in the pine-and-cedar bath for three full hours. I made sure my scent was exactly the way she liked it best.

I’m delicious.

I’m made to be bitten.

Elena, I’m the one who feels best under your teeth.

The End.
