The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 07

The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 07

Rose’s face went pale for exactly one second.

Then the tears came – perfectly on cue, rolling down her cheeks like she had rehearsed them.

FUCK FAKE TEARS!

THIS BITCH HAD AN OSCAR AWARDING TALENT.

“That’s not true,” she sobbed, her voice breaking beautifully. “Yara, why are you lying? After everything why would you say something like that?”

“You’re the one who destroyed me.” I said.

“I just wanted a happy wedding.” She pressed her fingers to her lips, shaking her head slowly. “I can’t believe

it’s come to this.”

She started her pretentious performance again, and damn she knew good timing.

As expected it produced the same result.

“Enough, Yara.” Tyson’s voice cracked across the room like a whip.

“You did something horrible and now you’re lying on top of it. Apologize to Rose. Now.”

“WHAT! NEVER! HOW CAN YOU BELIEVE HER?”

“Yara.” Aldric’s voice became more cold to me. “I suggest you apologize immediately.”

Dorian didn’t even look at me. He was already pulling Rose closer, one hand at her back, his entire body angled away from me like I had already ceased to exist.

You had gotta be kidding me.

Maybe Rose really did have the heroine’s halo. No matter what she said they believed her. Whatever came out of her mouth was the truth. Whatever came out of mine was a lie.

She was always the innocent one.

I was always the villain.

I looked at all of them – their cruel words, their faces twisted with disgust – and felt something hollow open up in my chest.

Twenty five years of degrading myself. All for my worthless life.

Damn I was exhausted. It was best I leave.

I tried to push past them and leave but Tyson stepped directly into my path.

“If you leave you’ll just find another way to cause trouble, I’m not letting you go” he snarled. “You’re staying right here Aldric and I will take turns watching you. You’re not going anywhere.”

So that was how it was.

I wanted to fight back but it was best I take this hit now unless who knows how worse it would get.

Moreover I needed to find a way to kill myself.

Dorian left. Went back to his wedding. Back to his life. Back to Rose’s reception that was apparently still happening somewhere in this castle while I sat on Aldric’s couch like a prisoner.

They brought me food.

I didn’t eat.

They dimmed the lights.

I didn’t sleep.

I just sat and stared at the window and thought about how many ways a hybrid could kill herself to death if she tried hard enough.

stopping. Refusing to keep going until her body had no choice but to agree.

Starvation. Exhaustion. Just stopping.

I was deep inside that thought when Rose spoke.

I hadn’t even heard her come back in.

She was beside me suddenly – close, too close, her silver hair falling over one shoulder, her voice dropping low enough that only I could hear.

“You fight so hard,” she said softly. Almost admiringly. “Twenty five years. I watched every single one of

them.”

I went still. Was I sure I heard it right… Did she know about my deal with the moon goddess?

No no there is no way she can know.

“And you never figured it out did you.” Her voice was barely a breath.

“You were never going to win. Not one of them. Not ever.” She tilted her head slightly. “Do you know why?”

I said nothing trying to calm myself yet I was failing in that aspect.

“Because you’re an abomination.” The word came out gentle. Gentle and precise like a blade finding the gap between ribs. “Half wolf. Half vampire. Not enough of either. Every single one of them looked at you and felt it – that wrongness. That incompleteness. They wanted to love you. They just couldn’t. Not because you were someone that isn’t whole and can’t be loved wholly, it was because I was in the picture in the spotlight.”

“I called you an abomination and you became exactly that to them”

My hands tightened on my knees.

“And that boy,” she continued, almost conversationally. “The one who watches you. The vampire. Did you think I didn’t notice him?” A small smile curved her mouth. “He’s been there the whole time hasn’t he. In the

shadows. Watching you suffer.” She leaned just slightly closer.

Zane? I thought.

The same Zane that acted nonchalantly and refused to speak or see me, the one that gave me no chance

Fuck it, it was a big lie, it didn’t add up.

The bitch was just saying it to get to me and make me hopeless.

Well I was hopeless.

“And he chose to do nothing. Twenty five years Yara. He watched every single thing happen to you and he stayed away. What does that tell you about how much you’re worth to even him?”

The hollow in my chest cracked wider.

“You never stood a chance.” Her voice dropped to almost nothing.

“Everyone knew it. Your brother knew it. Aldric knew it. Even you knew it. You were a joke from the beginning.” She exhaled softly.

“And now you’re exactly where you were always going to end up.”

After her last word I snapped.

I moved before I finished thinking.

My hands swiftly found her throat and I drove her back into the wall hard enough to crack the plaster. Rose made a sound – surprise, genuine surprise

surprise, genuine surprise – and then we were on the floor and I had her pinned and I

wanted to hear her say it, say it out loud where they could all hear-

“TELL THEM.” My voice came out gold and layered and wrong.

“TELL THEM WHAT YOU DID. SAY IT—”

“Yara-“Tyson’s voice somewhere behind me.

Rose’s eyes found mine from the floor and she smirked evilly.

It lasted half a second. A small, cold, satisfied smile meant only for me.

“Perfect,” she whispered, so quiet only I could hear. “You fell right into it.”

Then she screamed.

Her hand came up and she raked her own nails across her cheek – fast, deep, hard enough to draw blood immediately. She screamed again, louder, her whole body curling away from me like I had done it.

“She’s attacking me – she’s going to kill me-”

Three things happened at once.

Tyson burst in with speed and hit me from the left. The force of an Alpha wolf behind it – not holding

back or controlling it just raw pack strength slamming into my side and sending me skidding across the floor that my inside almost crushed.

I spat out blood from my mouth to the ground but I wasn’t done.

I was going to make her spill the truth right now.

I stood up swiftly and attacked again.

Aldric’s binding spell hit me a half second later, cold chains of magic locking around my wrists and yankin them behind my back.

I fought them. Of course I fought them. My hybrid strength flared gold and I broke the first binding and go halfway to my feet before Tyson drove me back down with his full weight slamming on the wall.

Arggh! My back hurts like crazy.

“IT WAS HER.” I was shouting. I couldn’t stop shouting. “She did it to herself – look at her hands look at the angle of the marks-”

“Stop.” Tyson’s voice in my ear, his arm locked across my throat.

“Stop talking.”

“She’s lying she whispered to me – she said she planned it, she said I fell into her trap-

“ENOUGH.”

“Aldric LOOK AT HER HANDS-”

A second binding spell hit. Then a third. Aldric’s magic was suffocating – precise and cold and absolute – and I felt my hybrid strength flickering under the weight of it, the gold in my eyes guttering.

Rose was crying in the corner. Beautifully and perfectly yet no one noticed she was pretending or maybe they didn’t care to pay attention.

Dorian had come back in at some point – I didn’t know when and he was crouched beside her, his hand over hers, not looking at me at all.

Tyson and Aldric pinned me to the floor together. My injuries were healing but too slowly -the binding magic was interfering, slowing everything down. Blood on my lip. My wrist at a wrong angle. My vision blurring at the edges.

I stopped fighting.

Not because I wanted to.

Because there was nothing left.

I lay there on the floor of Aldric’s healing quarters, pinned and bleeding and watched by people who had already decided what they were seeing, and I stared at the ceiling and felt the last of something go quiet inside me.

“She’s shutting herself off,” I heard Aldric say somewhere above me, his voice strange. “Trying to kill herself

to death.”

“What?” Tyson’s grip loosened slightly. “What’s wrong with her?”

“She’s shutting down. Both sides. Wolf and vampire both.” A pause.

This time I think Yara has genuinely gone unstable. Mentally and supernaturally both.”

From the corner, muffled behind Dorian’s shoulder, Rose made a soft sad sound.

I closed my eyes in defeat and in regret.

“Well,” Claire said in my head, very quietly. No jokes. No commentary. Just — quiet. “That was brave. What you said. Even if they didn’t believe it.”

“But getting angry and acting rash was a bad idea”

I didn’t answer her.

I had nothing left to say because once again she was right.

I had fucked up.
