Fiancé?Sorry, My Memory Was Wiped Chapter 09

The fingers around Evelyn’s throat tightened like an iron collar.

For the first time, death felt terrifyingly real.

In Marcus’s bloodshot, nearly unhinged eyes, she saw her own distorted reflection.

Something inside her broke.

She collapsed completely.

Sobbing uncontrollably, Evelyn confessed everything.

From the moment she’d entered Belladonna and realized how much power Marcus held, greed had taken root.

She’d used her miserable childhood to win everyone’s sympathy.

Then she’d set out to imitate Shade and steal everything she had-her operations, her credit, her

teammates’ respect, even Marcus’s affection.

Her operations.

Her credit.

Her teammates’ approval.

Even Marcus’s affection.

“Only if she disappeared completely…”

“Only then would you finally see me…’

Evelyn crumpled to the floor.

She grabbed Marcus’s pant leg and sobbed.

“I did all of it because I loved you too much, Marc!”

Marcus recoiled as if she’d spoken the filthiest words imaginable.

He ripped his leg away.

His stomach churned.

Evelyn crawled toward him.

Her tear-streaked face tilted up desperately.

“Hit me.”

“Kill me if you want.”

“Anything, as long as it makes you feel better!”

Marcus looked down at her.

Only cold disgust remained in his eyes.

He gave a cold laugh.

“Kill you?”

“That’s far too merciful.”

“You don’t deserve it.”

He pulled out his secure comms unit and contacted the Internal Discipline Unit.

Several men dressed in black arrived minutes later.

Marcus gave the order.

“Evelyn violated Belladonna’s standing code.”

“She framed a fellow operative.”

“The evidence is conclusive.”

“Process her at the highest level reserved for traitors.”

“Send her to the Flood Cell.”

“She doesn’t leave without my personal authorization.”

The Flood Cell was where Belladonna kept its most hated enemies.

Deep underground.

No sunlight.

No escape.

Prisoners were chained by the neck and left half-submerged in filthy, freezing water.

They were fed spoiled scraps like livestock.

Unable to live.

Unable to die.

Any resistance sent high-voltage current surging through the chains.

As Evelyn was dragged away, her desperate pleas turned into vicious curses.

She screamed abuse at Marcus.

At Shade.

But she was destined to pay for what she’d done.

In cold.

In darkness.

Until the day she died.

After dealing with Evelyn, Marcus activated every intelligence channel and dark-web contact

Belladonna had.

He spared no cost.

He wanted Shade found.

He even knelt before the big boss and begged for her location.

The big boss looked down at him.

“I gave her enough money to start over.”

“But where she went was never mine to ask.”

“So no.”

“I don’t know.”

Shade had vanished like she’d never existed.

No trail.

No message.

Nothing.

For three full years.

During those three years, Marcus punished himself the only way he knew how.

He accepted only the most dangerous, bloodiest cleanup operations.

He even wiped out the entire High Council.

Every fellow operative who had spoken disrespectfully to Shade.

Dana included.

Marcus brought back mountains of contract payouts.

The big boss rewarded him again and again.

But Marcus only grew darker.

Colder.

More vicious.

The hostility around him became so suffocating that even seasoned operatives avoided speaking to

him.

Until this assignment.

Sicily.

Marcus had come to eliminate a hostile family entrenched in the region.

The operation ended after nightfall.

The smell of blood still hung in the air.

Marcus was preparing to exfiltrate as he turned onto a quiet side street..

Then a clear door chime rang through the evening breeze.

He glanced over instinctively.

Not far away, a tiny bookstore glowed with warm yellow light.

A woman in a simple dress stood outside, bending down to lock the door.

Then she straightened.

Her profile came fully into the light.

Every drop of blood in Marcus’s body froze.

His heart missed a beat.

Shade?!
