Rebirth: My Sister Stole My Rapist Husband Chapter 09 What’s Mine

He stepped closer, his voice quiet, almost pleading. “Can you forgive me? Think-we had fifty years together in our past life. I’ll be rich again. I’ll give you the life you deserve, love you just like I did before.”His tone grew urgent, desperate. “The Vanderbilts will never let someone like you marry into their family. Finn’s just playing with you. I’m the one who truly loves you. Staying with me is your best choice.”

Luke’s face paled the second Finn walked toward us.

Finn stepped in front of me, his voice cold as ice. “Looks like I need to get you bodyguards to keep these pests away.”

He turned his gaze to Luke, every word sharp and deliberate.

“I’m not playing with her. A man who can’t protect his own woman? That’s garbage. And I’m not garbage.”

Luke’s face flushed, then blanched-he had no comeback.

Finn pressed on, his voice steady but laced with unshakable threat. “I know you’re trying to start a business, scrambling for backers. If you come near her again…”

He paused, letting the words hang. “I’ll make sure you have no place left in this industry. Not anywhere.”

Luke stared at him, then at me-defeat etched in every line of his face.

Finally, he said nothing. All he could do was turn and slink away, humiliated.

Once he was gone, Finn’s expression softened, the hard edge fading.

“I won’t fail the person I love. Don’t listen to him-he’s just trying to drive us apart.”

I saw the tension in his jaw, the worry in his eyes, and I couldn’t help but smile. “I know.”

I trusted Finn’s feelings for me.

But I also knew this: my future wouldn’t depend on feelings alone.

After we went abroad, I threw myself into the lab. Materials science was grueling; breaking through the technical barriers was even harder-failures piling up, setbacks one after another.

Late nights became my routine. I saw the 4:00 a.m. lab lights more often than daylight.

Finn grumbled that I never made time for him, but every time I hit a wall, he’d show up at the

lab door with a hot coffee in hand.

“You focus,” he’d say, pressing the cup into my palm. “I’ll be right here.”

When I finished my combined master’s and doctoral program, I was granted a patent for a new material technology-one I’d poured every late night into perfecting.

We went back home together.

Eleanor, Finn’s mother, hosted a welcome dinner with his father, Mr. Vanderbilt.

Over the meal, she took my hand, her smile warm and gentle. “I knew from the start you were a good kid.”

She glanced at Finn, a playful glint in her eye. “Well? What are you waiting for? I remember someone dipping into his own allowance to fund scholarships-snuck a few extra names onto the list, just in case the girl he liked was too proud to take help.”

Finn’s ears turned bright red. Mine did too.

That night, leaving the Vanderbilt estate, Finn pulled the car over and turned to me, his expression serious.

He got down on one knee, a ring box in his hand-but the second he opened his mouth, he fumbled over his words, nervous and flustered.

I laughed, throwing my arms around him and nodding hard. “Yes.”

Finn cried then-holding me like a child, sobbing with unbridled joy, as if he couldn’t believe I’d said yes.

Later, I heard Luke had tried and failed to start a business-again and again. Debt stacked up, and eventually, he resorted to delivering food to make ends meet.

As for me, I led my team through the project launch. The technology was commercialized, and my career grew-steady, sure, and entirely my own.

Soft morning light filtered through the lab windows.

At the end of each day, I’d head home-and someone would be there, waiting for me.

In this life, I finally lived the life that was truly mine.
