Rebirth: My Sister Stole My Rapist Husband Chapter 07 A Second Chance

His arms tightened around me, holding me so close I could barely breathe.

“I was already in the boarding tunnel. But halfway there… I don’t know why-I just had this feeling.” He paused, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “That I should stay. That I should try one more time.”

Then his tone hardened, simmering with barely contained anger.

“They told me what happened. Someone hurt you. Tried to drive a wedge between us on purpose.”

“Clara-anyone who lays a hand on you? I’ll never let them get away with it.”

I nodded, my voice thick with tears, repeating the same words over and over. “I’m just so glad you’re okay. So glad.”

He pulled back slightly to look down at me, his eyes softening. “You were that scared of losing me? That worried about me… does that mean… you care about me?”

My face burned.

I opened my mouth, but the words got stuck in my throat.

I watched the light in his eyes flicker and dim, and I bit my lip, nodding faintly.

In an instant, he pulled me into a crushing hug, like he was afraid I’d slip away.

I leaned against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.

In this life, I’d changed everything. I shouldn’t still doubt Finn’s feelings. Shouldn’t let the fears of my past life push away the love right in front of me.

I went back to school with Finn by my side.

When I asked around, I realized things had played out similarly to my previous life-but not exactly the same.

Luke, just like before, had managed to clear his name. He’d proven the rape accusation was nothing but a rumor spread by Jace, and Mr. Reed had started acknowledging him again.

But there was one key difference.

In my previous life, I’d been the one drugged and left in the cornfield with Luke. I’d found the person who’d drugged us and proven I’d been set up.

But this time, Lila had gone into that field willingly. The man hired to drug Luke had gotten spooked by her and fled-and now, he was nowhere to be found.

With the key witness gone, Mr. Reed still wasn’t fully convinced of Luke’s innocence. In the end, both Luke and Jace were punished, and the Reed family’s fortune wasn’t handed entirely to Luke.

Just as I was taking things one step at a time, rumors about me blew up online.

The photos attached were the ones of me pinned down by those thugs. The posts claimed I’d sold myself for money, working as a hostess, and spun all kinds of degrading lies.

They even paid off students to spread the gossip on campus and in comment sections.

People whispered about seeing me with shady men off-campus, claimed I’d tried to seduce them, said I was only after their money.

Finn and his friends shut down the campus rumors fast, but online, the chaos spiraled out of control.

When I left campus for my part-time job, I started being followed and harassed by thugs.

Finn drove me everywhere, promising to hire the best lawyers and set things right.

I stayed calm, collecting evidence bit by bit-tracking down the source of the rumors, and proof that Luke had paid off those thugs to get revenge for Lila.

One day, Luke stopped me on my way home from class.

He’d fully recovered his memories of our previous life.

Gone was the uncertain young man I’d remembered; now, his features were set in the stern calm of someone who’d weathered the cutthroat business world.

The moment he saw me, something flickered in his eyes-longing, regret, maybe even possession-before he spoke, steady and sure.

“Sweetheart. I heard you didn’t choose me this time around-opted for some pretty boy instead. What’s that about? You’re being a little naughty.”

I stared at him coldly. “You chose Lila in this life. You’re the one who told me to get lost.”

He frowned, his tone almost reproachful.

“I hadn’t fully recovered my past life memories back then. Of course I chose her. And honestly? This is your fault too. Why didn’t you fight for me? Or at least keep trying?”

I let out a bitter, hollow laugh.

“What exactly do you want, Luke? Now that you remember, you know the truth. I never hurt Lila. Never took her innocence. Never made her lose the baby. If you chose her, then stay with her-and leave me alone.”

Luke smiled, a slow, possessive curve of his lips. “You’re my wife. Why would I ever give you up?”
