I Quit Being My Genius Boyfriend’s Nanny Chapter 08

I Quit Being My Genius Boyfriend’s Nanny Chapter 08

“I don’t have a job anymore. I’ve got nothing left to lose.”

“You think I’m scared of you?”

Her eyes were red, her breath ragged.

“But she was your best friend!”

“Every dress she ever bought, she picked out for you.”

“Every time you were sick, she stayed by your side.”

“When you pouted, she’d cook you a whole table of your favorite food.”

Cole shot back. “She did no less for you than she did for me.”

They nearly came to blows outside the institute.

Cole walked away with scratches all over his face, alone and hollow.

He was desperate to find Luna.

But he realized he’d never really paid attention to her-

didn’t know where she wanted to go, what she liked to do, or have any clue where to even start

looking.

He sat in the corner and drank. And drank.

People at the institute started to notice.

Cole wasn’t suspended, but he was falling apart.

Wrinkled clothes, unkempt hair, gaunt face.

When the weather turned cold, he was still in a dirty T-shirt.

The brilliant, charismatic doctor who once turned heads everywhere he went was gone.

Now he looked like a homeless man-young women crossed the street to avoid him.

A few days later, Cole and Grace got a notice from the show:

their contract was terminated.

The network posted a short statement: “Due to personal reasons, the contract is canceled.”

The comments filled with whispers.

Someone shared a screenshot of the fire investigation report with Grace’s name circled:

“Major safety violation-terminated.”

A caption added, “She was drinking in the lab and kissed a colleague. That colleague already had a girlfriend.”

The story snowballed.

Then someone posted footage from the wedding.

It was shot from the guest seating-grainy but clear enough.

In the video, Cole and Grace stood so close their shoulders touched.

Grace wore the bridesmaid’s dress but stood where the bride should have been, pushing me out of

the frame.

I tugged at Cole’s arm. He didn’t even glance my way.

Minutes later, Grace pulled him toward the exit.

They left like they were running away from their own lives.

Champagne toppled over. Wine soaked my gown.

The video ended with me frozen on stage, alone.

The guests murmuring behind me.

It went viral.

The buzz was bigger than the “power couple” hype ever was.

Under Cole and Grace’s accounts, the comments were vicious.

“Golden duo? More like parasites. She devoted twenty years to you and you called her a burden.”

“Doctor of the year? More like mistress of the year.”

“You two played lovers while the real girlfriend did your laundry and cooked your meals. Disgusting.”

Cole sat in the empty rental, scrolling through all of it.

He tossed his phone onto the couch, walked into Luna’s room, and crouched down on the floor.

“I’m sick. Fever. Can you come back and stay with me?”

“Luna… what do I have to do for you to forgive me?”

He typed it out with trembling hands. This time, he got a reply.

“Never.”

He stared at the screen for a long time.

Like he couldn’t believe it.

Like if he looked long enough, the words would change.
