The Alpha Aunt They Framed Chapter 07

The Alpha Aunt They Framed Chapter 07

MAREN’S POV

The placement assessment results came out.

To my surprise, Brielle had moved from twenty-third place in her grade to ninth.

I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw her results. This was the first time my daughter had ever made it

into the top ten.

Everyone knew that the higher your ranking was, the harder it became to improve.

Looks like the private tutoring I paid for had been worth it.

As for Elara, she hadn’t received any tutoring, nor did she have Brielle helping her with

assignments. Maybe because of what happened at the start of the school year, she had also become less willing to communicate with teachers and classmates.

Her ranking dropped from the two-hundreds to the four-hundreds.

Right then, Colin called me.

“Hey.”

“Tsk.”

What kind of attitude was that?

I immediately hung up.

A moment later, he called again, and I casually answered.

“Maren, why did you hang up on me just now?”

“I didn’t hear anyone address me, so I thought it was a random call. What do you

need?”

“My daughter’s grades dropped so much. What happened?”

“Colin, shouldn’t you be asking your daughter that? She’s the one who needs to figure out why she hasn’t been putting enough effort into studying. Everyone else has improved after half a semester, and she’s the only one who hasn’t.”

“Maren, I’m only speaking to you this politely because you’re my brother’s wife.”

Hearing that, I hung up again.

When he called three more times in a row, I finally picked up.

“If you can’t learn to speak properly, I won’t answer your calls anymore.”

“I just want to know something. My daughter was always ranked in the two-hundreds during her freshman and sophomore years. How did her grades drop so much after only half a semester living with you? You should take responsibility for this.”

“First of all, senior year is when academic difficulty increases dramatically. A drop in grades is normal. Second, if you truly believe living with me is the problem, then send her back to live on campus.”

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if Elara went back to campus. It would make my life much easier. But I was certain Colin wouldn’t agree.

Not only would he have to pay for the boarding fees, but he’d also need to give her $300 a week for living expenses. There was no way he would be willing to spend that money.

“Maren, why do you say so? I just heard that Brielle’s grades have always been excellent. They’re cousins, so why doesn’t Brielle help her more? Also, I heard Brielle has a private tutor. If the tutor can teach one child, why can’t they teach two? How can you treat two kids so differently?”

“Colin, it’s not that I don’t want to. One-on-one tutoring and tutoring two students together don’t cost the same. Do you really think the tutor will teach another child for free? If you want Elara to study with her, I’ll send you the tutor’s contact information. You can discuss it yourself. It’s only about $49,000 anyway. Both you and Yvonne work and make money. Surely you wouldn’t be unwilling to spend that much on your own daughter.”

“Maren, I think you’re obsessed with money.”

This time, before I could hang up, he ended the call first.

Seriously. I had no idea who Colin had “heard” all this from.

What a mystery. Actually, it wasn’t hard to guess.

Looks like Elara has been running to her parents and complaining about me this whole time.
