I Got Revenge When They Drew The Same Room Key Chapter 08

I Got Revenge When They Drew The Same Room Key Chapter 08

Nathaniel and I were just leaving a cocktail party.

Julian was standing right outside the doors.

He looked even more haggard than before.

He was still in an expensive suit, but the tie hung loose, and the skin under his eyes was dark with heavy

shadows.

When he saw Nathaniel and me walk out together, something in his eyes flickered.

“Hazel.”

“I need to talk to you.”

Nathaniel didn’t even blink.

“She doesn’t want to hear it.”

Something in Julian finally snapped.

“Nathaniel, do you have to interfere every single time?”

Nathaniel laughed.

“Not used to it yet, Mr. Croft?”

“You will be.”

Julian’s eyes were raw.

“Hazel, you’re really going to choose him?”

“You don’t even know him.”

“You have no idea what the Reeds are like. You think he’ll actually treat you well?”

I looked at him.

“Then what about you?”

“We grew up together, Julian. And look how that turned out.”

Julian had nothing to say to that.

I wasn’t done.

“At least Nathaniel won’t humiliate me in front of a room full of people.”

“He won’t let anyone use my family’s name to tear me down.”

“And he won’t send me to buy condoms for you and your mistress.”

That last line hit him hard. I could see it.

He was finally realizing how that night sounded out loud.

“Hazel.”

“I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Chloe was crying, and I wasn’t thinking straight.”

“I was just…”

“Just what?”

Julian’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.

He pulled a velvet box from his pocket.

An emerald brooch.

The one I’d wanted at the auction. The one I walked away from because he told me to.

“I tracked it down.”

His voice was low and hoarse.

“Hazel, I know you wanted this.”

“I should have bought it for you then.”

I looked at the brooch and felt absolutely nothing.

A gift this late was just a reminder of everything he hadn’t done.

My voice was quiet.

“Julian.”

“I stopped wanting it a long time ago.”

His hand froze in mid-air.

That’s when Chloe came running up.

Her eyes were swollen, and her voice was shaking.

“Julian.”

“Why won’t you answer my calls?”

“Just let me explain.”

Julian turned to her, and the look on his face was something I’d never seen before.

“Explain what?”

“Explain how you swapped the keycards behind my back?”

Chloe looked like she’d been slapped.

I went still.

Julian pulled out his phone and pulled up the security footage.

In the video, just before the game started, Chloe leaned in toward the club manager while no one was looking and whispered something.

Then she slipped a keycard into his hand.
