My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 17

My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 17

I didn’t have time to care. The Al startup my junior founded was entering a new round of venture capital The

company was blowing up faster than I’d expected. Almost too fast. If the divorce dragged on, Gavin could

claim half of everything. I couldn’t let that happen.

He kept sending flowers, jewelry, all my favorite foods.

“Sage, no divorce. I love you. Before, now, and always, you are my only wife.”

I shook my head. A man whose eyes wander isn’t worth keeping. Maybe at the start, he only felt admiration

for Cecilia. But his heart drifted. He believed their slander. That wasn’t unconditional trust.

A person who truly loves you can’t be hypnotized. I told him that no one leaves because of a single snap

decision.

Hearts don’t freeze overnight. They go cold one disappointment at a time. And love turns cold because of

too much disappointment.

Gavin scrambled to defend himself. “But those were your own parents saying those things…”

I cut him off. “You’re a grown man. Don’t you have any judgment? You were just looking for a convenient

excuse.”

He once swore he’d never become his father, the kind of man who destroys his family over some other

woman. But the boy who swore he’d never become his father ended up becoming exactly that.

Gavin finally agreed to the divorce. The whole scandal had tanked the West Group’s stock.

A leader who lies for a scandalous woman, who can’t even admit who his actual wife is, makes shareholders

lose all faith.

Under Reginald’s crushing pressure, he promised to sign.

“Sage, I’ll give you another one hundred million dollars in assets. As for your investment in your friend’s

company…”

I shot him a guarded glare before he could finish. Gavin let out a hollow, broken laugh. “It doesn’t matter

what I say now. You just assume it’s a trap, don’t you?”

I didn’t deny it. Once bitten, twice shy. He shook his head, almost smiling. “Don’t worry. What’s mine is yours. What’s yours stays yours.”

But we never made it to the courthouse. Cecilia escaped from St. Agnes. In a blind, psychotic rage, she got behind the wheel and floored it straight at me.

“Sage Reed! Why do you always have to steal everything that’s mine? Did you force Gavin and Dylan to lock

me up?”

She was completely unhinged. She didn’t even understand who had actually wronged her.

In that split second, Gavin shoved me out of the way. The car hit him head-on. I watched his body fly

backward and slam into the ground. Blood poured out of him without stopping. It was horrifying.

Gavin lifted a trembling hand, straining to touch my face. “Sage… I told you… there’s no divorce… only death…”

His words became a prophecy. I lowered my head and let out a sigh.

Some things really should never be spoken out loud.

The snow fell in thick, blinding sheets. Soon, all the blood was buried beneath a blanket of pure white.
