My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 04

My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 04

I tossed and turned all night and left the house early the next morning. KTN News had an interview scheduled with Cecilia, and I was assigned to produce it.

When she walked in, my coworker Ren practically swooned. “She’s seriously flawless. Like, head-to-toe perfection.”

I nodded. Cecilia was born beautiful. She never had an awkward phase.

If she so much as got one pimple, my dad would panic and rush her straight to the dermatologist. My mom would whip up some green smoothie detox in the blender like it was a medical emergency. They bought her the most expensive skincare.

Meanwhile, I was in my school uniform, locked in my room grinding through problem sets.

I said I wanted to learn makeup too. My mom called it a waste of money. My dad snapped, “With your face? Putting makeup on you is like putting lipstick on a pig.”

I threw a glass and screamed until my mom was so fed up she grudgingly agreed to pay for tutoring instead.

This time, I wasn’t backing down. Not fighting only means losing your shot. Even if I quit this job, I’d still win my final battle.

Dad was playing agent, carrying Cecilia’s bags like a personal servant. During the makeup session, Mom kept stressing that Cecilia had extremely delicate skin and demanded only the highest-end products.

I sat in the next room, typing away on my keyboard. Ren rested her chin on her hands. “Aren’t her parents a little over the top? I heard they dropped their whole careers just to turn her into some kind of dance queen.”

I smiled and said nothing. She went on, her voice all dreamy. “Rumor has it the CEO of the West Group is her biggest fan. The latest gossip is they’ve been secretly dating for a year.”

“People think wedding bells are on the way. Why else would he pump so many resources into her? He even almost got crushed saving her at that gala.”

Ren was young and romantic, spinning a fantasy about a billionaire and his swan princess in her head.

I found myself biting my nails—a nasty habit from years of swallowing resentment. I hadn’t done it in ages.

Gavin never publicly acknowledged me as his wife. At first, I was scared his relatives would use me to get to him.

After we got the marriage license and he met Cecilia, he claimed he didn’t want people thinking I’d climbed the ladder using him.

He never took me to public events. So many things he once said were for my own good now felt like a sick joke.

I fought to keep my emotions in check. I couldn’t let the hurt override my logic.
