He Sent a Fake to Scare Me Off, I Ended Up Feeding Him for Months Chapter 08

The next morning, I arrived at school earlier than usual.

While no one was watching, I pulled out the breakfast our housekeeper had packed and was about to slip it into Elias’s desk.

A slender, well-groomed hand darted into view and snatched it away.

I stared at my empty hand, then looked up, ready to snap-only to find myself facing a strikingly

handsome boy.

“You again?” I frowned. “Why did you steal my sandwich?”

Chase’s smile froze, and he looked almost wounded.

“Savannah, did you forget me? I’m Chase Whitmore.”

I stared at him in surprise. “Wait, you’re Chase Whitmore too?”

He tapped me lightly on the head.

“When we were six, you grabbed a chicken and made it peck me on the butt. You seriously don’t

remember?”

That was when I realized something was wrong.

“You’re Chase?” I glanced at Elias’s desk. “Then he’s…”

“Elias Reed.” Chase looked at me as if the answer were obvious. “Don’t tell me you thought he was

me.”

I pulled out the address I’d kept carefully tucked in my pocket and pointed to it.

“But I went there. No one was home.”

Admittedly, I hadn’t searched very carefully. Someone had already pointed Elias out as Chase, so I hadn’t thought much of it.

Besides, I hadn’t come to Westbridge to force anyone into an engagement. Getting into a good college mattered far more.

Elias clearly had Ivy League-level grades. If I kept following his lead, I could probably get into a top university myself.

By then, I’d decided that failing to find my fiancé wasn’t such a big deal.

More importantly, Elias was handsome too, just in a completely different way.

Chase had the striking good looks of someone born into wealth and privilege. Even his gaze carried

an effortless confidence.

Elias was handsome in a quieter, more resilient way. Life always seemed one step away from knocking him down, yet he somehow remained standing.

“Who gave you that address? Someone must’ve copied it down wrong. But…”

Chase leaned closer, putting on an offended expression.

“Take a good look, Savannah. I’m your fiancé-Chase Whitmore, the boy you’ve been engaged to since we were kids. I’d love to know who convinced you that Elias was me.”

I scratched my head. “I’m sorry…”

More students began filing into the classroom, and several immediately noticed Chase.

“Isn’t that Chase Whitmore? I thought he transferred to another class. Why is he back?”

Chase straightened and handed me the sandwich.

“It’s fine. I’ll pick you up after school. My grandfather has been wanting to meet you.”

That evening, he wired Mason seventy thousand dollars and told him to stay overseas for as long as

possible.

When I looked up again, I saw Elias standing inside the classroom. I had no idea when he’d arrived.

His hand tightened around the strap of his backpack, his shoulders slightly hunched. He stood there without a word, looking at me with a hurt I couldn’t miss.

Elias had heard everything.
