While Leith was inside getting his head bandaged, Corbett and I waited outside.

With his brother there, Leith probably wouldn’t try anything.

Then Tova called me.

“Why did you and Leith both email your professors saying you’d be out? Is everything okay?”

“We’re fine.”

“Oh, good. I thought you were sick.”

Her voice brightened.

“Anyway, I have to go. My boyfriend’s here to pick me up.”

I frowned.

“Boyfriend?”

“Yeah! I saw him at the basketball game and was immediately into him.”

“It took forever, but I finally got him to go out with me.”

I went silent for several seconds.

“Does Leith know?”

“Of course. He’s the one who gave me his number.”

My mind filled with question marks.

So did the comments.

[WHAT IS HAPPENING?!]

[Excuse me? What kind of plot twist is this? I’m done.]

[I can’t defend the male lead anymore. He doesn’t seem to like the heroine AT ALL.]

“Leith… doesn’t he like you?”

Tova sounded horrified.

“Why would he like me?!”

“Tavia, did you seriously misunderstand us?”

“Leith and I are just friends. Honestly, I always felt like I annoyed him, so I stopped following him around

once we got older.”

My thoughts raced.

“But he brought you breakfast.”

“That breakfast was for YOU. I grabbed it, and Leith immediately typed that it wasn’t mine. It was so

embarrassing!”

“And I knew he liked you from the start. Remember move-in day, when you said your stomach hurt?”

“He told me to go eat by myself, then left to buy you medicine.”

“When I came back, he was standing outside your dorm. You weren’t answering his texts, so he thought you were asleep and asked me to take the medicine up.”

“But you weren’t there, and neither were your roommates, so I brought it back down.”

“He just stood there waiting for you after that.”

Tova paused.

“Leith really, really likes you.”
