He Faked Poverty, Tricked Me Into an Abortion, All for a Bet Chapter 11

Fortunately, my uncle and aunt only respected money and status.

At least that meant they knew exactly how to treat someone like Lucas.

They practically bent over backward to be polite to him.

Grandma did not look well, but she was still delighted to see me.

She held my hand and talked to me for a long time before asking when Lucas and I planned to get

married.

Marriage?

I had no intention of getting married in this lifetime.

Lucas was exceptionally gentle with Grandma.

Whatever she said, he patiently went along with it.

It seemed he had not been lying when he claimed he was good with elderly people.

After leaving the hospital room, I spoke with the doctor again about Grandma’s condition.

Injuries like hers were not uncommon among older patients, but the risks involved in surgery were

indeed higher.

Lucas listened from the side, then stepped away to make a phone call.

When he returned, he told me he had found a specialist for Grandma.

I had never heard the specialist’s name before, but the doctor clearly had.

He must have been extremely well known, because the doctor looked so excited he was practically

ready to jump out of his seat.

“Stop looking at me like that,” Lucas said, clearly uncomfortable. “Can you stop putting yourself

beneath everyone else all the time? The more you do that, the easier it is for people to look down on

you. Do you understand?”

“But you gave me the money for Grandma’s surgery, found her an excellent doctor, came all the

way back here with me, and you’ve been kind to me.”

“Money isn’t an issue for me. The cost of your grandmother’s surgery is nothing to me. Finding good doctor only takes one phone call. I came with you because I was curious about the countryside. And I’m nice to you because I’m a normal person. You haven’t done anything to offend me, so why would I constantly lose my temper with you?”

He looked directly at me.

“The stories you tell me, your personality, your company, and your honest reactions are more than enough in return for what I spend. At least in that respect, we’re equals.”

“If I didn’t think you were worth it, I wouldn’t do any of this for you. So stop acting as though you have no value. Of course you’re nowhere near as wealthy as I am, but that doesn’t mean you’re

worthless.”

The more he spoke, the more moved I became.

He must have noticed it, because he immediately warned me.

“I’m warning you now. Plenty of women have fallen for me just because I treated them well, but I suggest you don’t make the same mistake.”

“My interest in you could disappear at any time, and our arrangement could end just as quickly. So don’t mistake this for love, and don’t ask me for anything beyond what we agreed on.”

I smiled.

This time, there was no sadness behind it.

“Don’t worry. I know how to stick to the terms.”
