He Canceled Our Wedding 18 TIMES for His Bestie Chapter 04

He Canceled Our Wedding 18 TIMES for His Bestie Chapter 04

When I came downstairs, the car I’d driven over was gone.

Griffin had already driven my car to the hospital.

He didn’t think about whether I needed it or how I’d get home in the middle of the night.

I scrolled through ride-sharing apps, but nothing came through. No one was picking up.

My finger had already started to swell.

So I gave up on the hospital and ducked into a small urgent care clinic instead.

The tetanus needle slid into my arm, and the pain hit hard enough to drain the color from my face.

Without thinking, I opened my social feed. Mirabelle’s post was right at the top.

[My first tetanus shot ever. It hurts like hell!]

[Good thing someone’s here to take the pain away.]

The photo showed Griffin’s profile, a fresh bite mark on his cheek.

That soft smile was still at the corner of his mouth.

Griffin always said a perfect girlfriend needed to be independent.

So even when period cramps had me nearly passing out, he’d ignored me asking to go to the ER and just sent me a delivery link for painkillers.

I thought after all his strict training, my pain tolerance would be sky-high.

Turned out I still cried when it really hurt.

The doctor paused, softened the pull on the needle, and told me to stay for observation.

I nodded. But my eyes drifted back to the comments under Mirabelle’s post.

[Perfect shot. You didn’t flinch at all. Plus one hundred.]

[Plus, we get to go to that place you’ve been dying to see.]

I tapped the screenshot attached to the comment. A pair of tickets for a Swiss tour group.

My fingers froze mid-air. I couldn’t look away.

Those were our honeymoon tickets. Mine and Griffin’s.

Seven years of failed weddings, and that trip had been on hold for just as long.

He used to say we’d buy new ones when the old ones expired, but the process couldn’t be broken. Personal feelings couldn’t ruin our perfect marriage.

And now he was giving our honeymoon away as a consolation prize to another woman.

So, could secondhand happiness still count as perfect?

I didn’t know.

I wiped my tears and typed a reply under her post.

[Have a good time.]

[We’re done.]

One thing I did know was that I didn’t want secondhand honeymoons.

Or secondhand men.

A second later, Griffin’s calls started flooding in.

I hung up, and he went straight to texts.

[Are you serious, posting crazy stuff on Mirabelle’s feed? Have you even reflected on what you did?]

[She was gracious enough to forgive you. The least I could do was make it up to her with a trip. Don’t make a big deal out of nothing.]

[The Rule One of the Perfect Girlfriend Handbook was ” stay ready to reply”. So, minus five.]

Finally, he seemed to cave halfway. “Be on time tomorrow at ten, and we’ll take you along.”

I didn’t bother with his wishful thinking. I just blocked and deleted both of them.

Then I opened Donovan Pierce’s message.

[Flight got moved up, leaving tomorrow morning.]

I typed back: [See you there.]

I spent the night in that clinic. Early the next morning, I took a cab back to the rental.

I grabbed my luggage, and headed to the airport.

While I was waiting for my flight, I saw Griffin staring at me, completely thrown.

I glanced at my watch. It was only seven.

He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Mirabelle’s voice chimed in from behind him. “Sandra! Are you coming on the trip with us?”

She rushed over, dragging her suitcase, clearly just arriving.

Griffin swallowed whatever he was about to say. “No,” he said flatly. “She’s late again.”

See? His clock only ever ran on Mirabelle’s time.

From pushing our meeting back three hours, to this blatant favoritism right in front of me.

He’d never had any intention of letting me into their little bubble.

He paused for a beat, then let out a sigh.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out the cleaned-up wedding ring, slipping it gently onto my finger.

“Be easy. We’ll be back in seven days. You get the wedding ready, and I’ll be there on time.”

“Don’t throw a tantrum now, okay? I won’t even deduct points for being late.”

He still thought I was the same Sandra who’d wait around like an idiot, get jealous over him and Mirabelle, and fold the second he threw me a crumb.

But he was wrong.

When you’ve made up your mind to leave, even explanations feel like too much.

I watched them walk away, then dropped the ring into the trash can and turned toward a different gate.

I just moved toward a future without him.

Seven days later, Griffin rushed straight from the airport to the banquet hall, cutting it right down to the wire.

But the second he walked in, he froze.

The hall stood empty. There was no wedding, no guests.

A surge of unease washed over him.

He grabbed the manager by the arm. “Today’s Sandra Beaufort’s wedding! Where is everyone?”

The manager looked baffled.

“Ms. Beaufort? She canceled every single future wedding booking a week ago. I heard she’s already left the country.”
