From Unwanted To Dominator: Her Comeback! Chapter 09

Chapter 9 Are You Happy Now?

My university life was everything I’d ever hoped for-full, meaningful, bright.

Patient mentors in class, like-minded friends outside of it, and regular calls from Wren in Holloway County

I was walking boldly toward a brighter future.

Then, during summer break of my sophomore year, chaos erupted at home.

When I walked through the front door, I nearly collided with Jasmine storming out.

She froze when she saw me-just for a second-then hurried away faster, as if I were something shameful to avoid.

It had been years since that strained New Year’s dinner.

We’d both changed.

Inside, the living room looked like a battlefield.

Mom and Dad were screaming at each other-voices raw, faces twisted with fury.

“If you hadn’t spoiled her rotten, would she be like this?!” Dad roared.

“I love her! She’s our daughter! Who else is supposed to love her if not us?!” Mom shot back, tears streaming.

“And look where that got her! She hasn’t even finished college, and she’s pregnant! Now she wants to marry some stranger and move to another city! When we tried to talk sense into her, she called us controlling! Is that what a daughter does? Huh? She doesn’t hold a candle to Annie!”

The moment those words left his mouth, Mom let out a shriek like a wounded animal-and slapped him across the face.

“Harrison! What did you just say?! You promised me you’d never favor the younger one! Do you have any idea how much that would hurt Jasmine if she heard?!”

There it was again-that blind, suffocating devotion.

Dad didn’t flinch. “Jasmine’s willing to cut us off for a man we’ve never met! When she said that, did she think about our hearts? You’ve watched how I treated Jasmine and Annie my whole life-didn’t you see it? Claire, is it really that hard to admit Jasmine was never Annie’s equal?!”

Mom collapsed onto the sofa, sobbing. “No! Jasmine is perfect! She’s the eldest-she deserves all our love! Why should Annie get any of it? My poor girl… she’s just like me-stuck with parents who don’t truly love

her!”

I stood in the doorway, listening her crazy words, and let out a quiet, bitter laugh.

If Jasmine was “poor,” then the world had no real suffering.

And yet… Dad was right.

Her recklessness, her entitlement, her belief that love meant getting whatever she wanted without accountability-

it all came from Mom’s endless indulgence.

Watching her in pain, I felt à quiet flicker of satisfaction-shameful, maybe, but undeniably there.

Then they finally noticed me.

Dad’s face flushed with shame.

Mom lunged forward, grabbing my wrists like I was her last lifeline.

Finished

“Annie! Please-go after your sister! Talk her out of leaving with that man! She’ll ruin her life! What will I do without her?!”

I pulled my hands free, coldly.

“What makes you think I can reach her? She doesn’t even consider me her sister.”

“You’re the smart one! The responsible one! You have to fix this!”

“And you?” My voice rose, sharp as glass. “You’re her mother. If you can’t stop her, why should I be able to?”

She recoiled like I’d burned her.

“I have class tomorrow,” I said flatly. “I’m leaving.”

As I shut the door behind me, Dad’s exhausted voice drifted through the wood.

“Well, congratulations. Your precious eldest is running away to marry a stranger, and your youngest won’t even look at you anymore. Are you happy now?”

I didn’t catch what she said-but she sounded like she was crying.
