After Our Wedding Was Canceled, He Searched the River for the Ring Chapter 03

Miles spotted me in the ballroom almost immediately.

He hurried over and stepped in front of me.

“This is Sienna’s first wedding as lead coordinator.”

“She’s spent a long time preparing for it. Don’t make a scene now.”

I had not said a single word.

Yet in his eyes, my mere presence meant I was there to destroy everything for Sienna.

I pulled the floral delivery form from my bag. Sienna’s signature was clearly visible on it.

Her expression changed, and she immediately reached for it.

“Elena, can we talk about this after the wedding?”

“I know you’re angry with me, but this is a client’s wedding…”

The bride’s family heard us and came over.

“What’s going on?”

Sienna lowered her head, her voice trembling.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t handle this properly.”

“Ms. Ward has been under a lot of stress lately, and something went wrong with the original bouquet. I already made a replacement.”

With that one statement, every eye turned toward me.

I looked up at Miles, but he merely placed a hand over my wrist.

“Let’s get through the wedding first.”

I suddenly remembered how, whenever something went wrong in the past, Miles would instinctively move to my side.

Back then, he had believed me even without evidence.

Now, he knew exactly what had happened, yet he was still asking me to leave.

One of the bride’s parents gave me a cold look.

“Ms. Ward, this is my daughter’s wedding. Whatever work dispute you have does not belong here.”

I opened my mouth but said nothing.

I had already lost my own wedding.

I did not want another bride to have regrets about hers, too.

Numbly, I sat down on a couch outside the ballroom.

Through the half-open door, I saw Sienna’s supervisor reprimanding her.

“Inventory was your responsibility. You lost the bouquet, then stood there and let the client thank you in front of everyone?”

Sienna kept her head lowered as tears rolled down her face.

Miles stood beside her, making excuses for her.

When her supervisor finally left, the hallway fell silent.

Miles turned and walked toward me.

“Elena, are you satisfied now?”

“Sienna worked so hard to prepare for this.”

“Did you really have to destroy everything she worked for?”

A laugh escaped me.

“Miles, is Sienna really that important to you?”

“Important enough that you can’t even tell right from wrong anymore?”

Miles seemed to finally realize what he had said. His expression stiffened, and he instinctively took a step toward me.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“Things were chaotic just now. I panicked and spoke too harshly.”

That was what Miles always did whenever we fought.

He would make me cry, then soften his voice and try to soothe me.

All he had to do was apologize, and I would cave.

“Mr. Bennett, contact my assistant about anything work-related.”

“As for anything personal, this ends here.”

Miles let out a humorless laugh.

“Are you done making a scene?”

Sienna’s eyes were red as she spoke.

“Elena, don’t you think you’ve taken this joke a little too far?”

The moment she finished speaking, a commotion erupted inside the ballroom.

The groom strode out, his face twisted with fury.

A second later, he slammed the bouquet onto the floor in front of us.

“Didn’t we make it clear in advance that the bride is allergic to gardenias?”

I looked down instinctively.

Among the scattered flowers lay a single gardenia.
