Six Rigged Reviews for Your Assistant? Congrats, You Lost Your Fiancée Chapter 07

Nolan remained on the floor for several minutes before he could move.

Then he drove straight to the airport.

He grabbed the attention of the first airline employee he found.

“Where did Maren go? Which flight did she take?”

The employee stepped back and called airport security.

“Sir, federal privacy rules prevent us from disclosing a passenger’s itinerary. You need to leave the

counter.”

Nolan’s face turned dark.

Outside the terminal, he struck himself twice across the face and called Connor Blake, his executive

aide.

“Hire whoever you need. Find out when Maren left and where she went.”

“Check her recent phone and financial records. I want the name of everyone who contacted her.”

Connor hesitated only a moment.

“Understood. I’ll report as soon as I have something.”

Nolan ended the call and watched travelers move through the terminal.

Fear spread through him.

After graduating from college, Maren had joined his company.

Their relationship remained private, and he assumed she knew no one beyond him and a few

coworkers.

She had never mentioned other relatives or anywhere else she might call home.

Where had she gone?

Questions crowded his mind until he could no longer stand still.

He returned to Vance Innovations and locked himself in his office.

Every thought led back to Maren.

For the first time, Nolan understood how arrogant he had been.

He believed he could control everything.

He believed Maren could never leave him.

He believed he could keep Sloane entertained while preserving Maren as the woman waiting at home.

Building a successful company had made him feel untouchable, as though ordinary rules and ordinary loyalty did not apply to him.

In his mind, Maren was permanent and Sloane was temporary.

He believed he could delay one woman, indulge the other, and still decide when both relationships began or ended.

Maren’s departure proved that control had always been an illusion.

He had never imagined Maren simply disappearing from his life.

Someone knocked.

Nolan forced down his agitation.

“Come in.”

Sloane entered in a pale silk dress, wearing a gentle smile.

“Nolan, I have wonderful news.”

He did not look up.

“Say it quickly. I’m busy, and at the office you will call me Mr. Vance.”

Her smile stiffened.

She took a medical report from her purse.

Sloane was pregnant.

Nolan showed none of the joy she expected.

His gaze sharpened.

“You’re certain?”

He grabbed the wrist holding the report.

He had once admired her delicate hands. Now he wanted to crush the one in his grip.

“I told you we would never have a child. Did you forget what this arrangement was?”

Sloane had assumed he delayed marrying Maren because he loved her.

Only then did she understand that Nolan had considered her temporary entertainment.

She backed away until her hip struck the desk.

“Maren left. We can finally be together.”

“Stop.”

Nolan shoved her away.

“I never planned a life with you. Maren is the only woman I will marry.”

He pointed at the report.

“That pregnancy should never have happened. I’ll have it handled.”

He called private security and ordered them to take Sloane to a clinic.

The coercion was unlawful, but Nolan no longer cared about law, consent, or consequences.

When the office was empty again, he collapsed into his chair.

For the first time in his life, he felt powerless.

He had money, status, and a company bearing his name, yet he could not hold on to the woman who

had loved him most.
