My Best Friend Took My Leg, My Baby, and My Love Chapter 05

My Best Friend Took My Leg, My Baby, and My Love Chapter 05

Shock.

Panic.

Fear.

One emotion after another flashed across Ethan Sterling’s face.

After standing there in silence for a long time, he finally managed a smile.

“Nattie, what are you talking about?”

“Sophie Carter and I are just friends.”

“Don’t overthink things. How could we possibly be anything more than that…?”

Slap.

Before he could finish, my hand landed across his face.

The sound echoed through the room.

The force was enough to make his head snap to the side.

A bright red mark appeared on his cheek.

Ethan slowly turned back.

He covered his face.

His expression was dark and unreadable.

I shook my numb palm.

My gaze was colder than ice.

“After everything that happened…”

“You still think I’m stupid?”

“Did you enjoy it?”

“Sneaking around with my best friend behind my back.”

“Having an affair with her.”

“Was it exciting?”

“You stood beside me every day, pretending to be the devoted husband who loved me more than anything.”

“You comforted me with sweet words.”

“You acted like I was the only person in your world.”

“But the moment you turned around, you held her in your arms.”

“You whispered the same promises to her.

“You gave her the same tenderness you once gave me.”

“You lived with one foot in two worlds.”

“Was it really worth it?”

Ethan opened his mouth.

But for a long time, no words came out.

Finally, he whispered:

“No…”

“It’s not like that.”

“Sophie and I…”

“We’re just friends.”

I laughed softly.

A laugh full of bitterness.

“Keep lying to me if you want.”

“But don’t lie to yourself.”

“Friends?”

“Would you drug your friend’s wife in a car and sleep with her while she was unconscious?”

“Would you run away with your friend after a car accident and leave your wife behind?”

“Would you let your wife lose her leg, lose her baby, and undergo a hysterectomy?”

“Would a friend strip naked with you on the couch in your own bedroom?”

“Don’t tell me you’re calling this some kind of game.”

I pulled out my phone.

Then I threw the security footage in front of him.

Ethan stared at the screen

The moment he saw the video, his pupils shrank.

His face turned completely pale.

“Nattie…”

“Please, listen to me.”

“I can explain.”

I looked at him calmly.

Almost peacefully.

“Okay.”

“I’m listening.”

“Go ahead.”

Ethan stood frozen.

Like he’d been nailed to the floor.

The evidence was right in front of him.

There was nothing left for him to deny.

I thought my heart had already been broken beyond repair.

I thought I couldn’t feel any more pain.

But seeing Ethan’s pale, terrified face….

Seeing Sophie standing there with all the color drained from hers…

That familiar ache in my chest returned.

Cold.

Heavy.

Suffocating.

It swallowed me whole.

I slowly looked away.

The pain from my missing leg still pulsed through my body.

But my eyes were empty.

“Why?”

“Weren’t you just confidently saying you were innocent?”

“Why can’t you say anything now?”

Ethan finally came back to his senses.

He took a step forward.

He tried to grab my hand.

His voice was desperate and helpless.

There was none of the confidence he carried at work.

“Nattie, I know I was wrong.”

“I know I was wrong.”

“Please, let me explain.”

“It wasn’t what you think.”

“I was confused.”

“I lost control.”

“But my feelings for you were real.”

“I never wanted to hurt you…”

“Never wanted to hurt me?”

I looked up sharply.

My voice was cold.

“You and Sophie drugged me in my own car.”

“You did those disgusting things while I was unconscious.”

“Then after the accident, you both escaped.”

“You left me there alone.”

“You watched me lose my right leg.”

“You watched me lose my child.”

“You watched me lose the chance to ever become a mother.”

“And you’re telling me you didn’t want to hurt me?”

Ethan’s face turned even paler.

I continued.

“You stayed beside me pretending to care.”

“You watched me struggle through rehabilitation.”

“You watched me thank you.”

“You watched me trust you.”

“Did you feel even a little guilty?”

“Did you ever look at me and feel ashamed?”

“Watching me like a fool, completely betrayed by the two people I trusted most…”

“Did that make you feel powerful?”

Every word I said made my heart grow colder.

All the hatred.

All the pain.

All the despair I had buried for weeks.

Everything came pouring out.

Ethan couldn’t say another word.

He just stood there.

Silent.

Completely defeated.
