The S-Rank Wolf They Failed to See Chapter 04

The S-Rank Wolf They Failed to See Chapter 04

Laughter and chatter drifted in from outside.

The reporters had no idea the person they were interviewing was just a C-rank omega.

They kept asking Ayla if she had any secrets to share.

Ayla didn’t bat an eye. “My secret is…”

“Read more books, read more news, eat fewer snacks, and sleep more.”

The reporters paused for a second, then laughed awkwardly. “Nina’s so funny…”

“I guess even powerful wolf warriors need to keep a relaxed mindset.”

After they left, my parents posted the interview photos in the five-hundred-person pack group chat.

Immediately, the praise flooded in.

[Oh my goddess! Our pack finally has an S-rank prodigy!]

[Nina’s going to be a student at Royal Werewolf Academy!]

One pack member got excited.

[Nina, you have to take us to visit the academy sometime!]

[We’ve lived our whole lives and never even set foot inside Royal Werewolf Academy.]

After one person spoke up, many more voiced their wish to go along with Ayla to visit the academy.

Ayla cleared her throat. “Of course you can! Mom and Dad got me a luxury apartment nearby. You’ll all have to help me clean it when you come.”

Then someone brought me up.

[How did Ayla do?]

My mom sighed and replied, “Ayla didn’t do well. She’s preparing to retake the trials next year.”

“But we all believe she’ll get a good score next time.”

The group chat buzzed nonstop.

Only my grandmother called me. Her voice was tense.

“Nina, I saw the interview photos in the group chat. Why is it Ayla? Not you?”

The tears came again.

I hesitated for a moment, then told Grandma everything.

Her breathing turned ragged with anger.

“How could they do this to you?”

“Using your scores to get your sister into Royal Werewolf Academy, how dare they even think of that!”

“Grandma, don’t tell them anything.”

“I’ve already agreed to go north with my professor. My records are being transferred there.”

“They can’t steal my talent.”

After I hung up, my whole family stormed into my room like a pack of thieves.

They grabbed my training logs, my honor badges, and my competition certificates, all of them. And then they handed them to Ayla.

She had to memorize the names of every competition I’d won.

I couldn’t help it. I laughed out loud.

My mom shot me a glare. “Nina, what are you laughing at?”

“Mom, Ayla’s only C-rank. Do you really think she can keep up with classes at Royal Werewolf Academy?”

“That’s not your concern.”

“She just needs to graduate with a title. Who actually trains properly once they get into the academy?”

My mom said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Ayla posed with my awards, pouting for photos to post on her socials.

After she was done, she tossed the medals aside like garbage, grabbed my hand, and dragged me to the mall. Said she needed to buy supplies for school.

I didn’t have a choice.

Ayla and Zane shoved me into the car. I had to help her pick out sunscreen and study lamps.

We passed a phone store. My mom stopped and turned to me.

“Didn’t you say your phone’s on its last legs? Pick one out.”

Before I could speak, Ayla bounced over cheerfully and pointed at a $99 basic phone. “This one’s perfect for her. She’s only studying for retakes. No point wasting money on something fancy.”

My fists clenched and my face went stiff. “No, thanks.”

“Nina, are you still mad at me?”

“Don’t worry. Once I’m at Royal Werewolf Academy, I’ll take tons of photos for you, okay?”

Ayla looped her arm through mine, her eyes full of mockery.

Something inside me snapped. I shoved her off.

She screamed and crumpled to the ground.

“Ayla!”

Zane rushed forward and scooped her into his arms.

He looked up at me with pure disgust.

“Are you serious right now?”

“Ayla was just trying to help you!”

“Help me?”

I didn’t know whether to defend myself or just laugh in his face.

“What’s going on?” Ethan happened to be nearby.

He saw Ayla’s tear-filled eyes, and his pupils trembled.

“Nina, why did you push Ayla?”

“And I was even thinking of getting you a new phone since yours is broken.”

They flanked Ayla on both sides like she was something precious.

I opened my mouth. Then closed it. Finally, I just smiled—a weak, tired smile.

“Forget it. Think whatever you want.”

They left.

Left me stranded at the mall. They said it would teach me a lesson.

It wasn’t that far home, —only about three miles.

But my phone had powered off. I got lost without GPS.

It took me over three hours to find my way back to the pack house.

Ayla was sitting in the air conditioning, eating fruit that Ethan and Zane had cut for her.

She saw me dripping with sweat and smiled. “You’re so late. Did you wander off and mess around on the road?”

I didn’t answer her.

I went to my room, grabbed my backpack, and got on the plane north with my professor.
