The Luna He Erased Chapter 12

The Luna He Erased Chapter 12

The Council chamber was smaller than I expected.

Stone walls older than any nation, moonstone inlaid in the floor, and fluorescenNights some committee had bolted to a thousand-year-old ceiling, humming a half-tone too high. The smell of old parchment and institutional cleaning solution.

I sat at the petitioner’s table with Maeve, my hands folded, wearing a simple black dress. No jewelry. No armor except my

spine.

Kane sat across the aisle.

I hadn’t been in a room with him in eight months.

He looked carved down. The face I had rebuilt was sharper now, the angles pronounced, as if grief had whittled away everything soft. His suit was expensive and wrinkled, like he’d slept in it – or hadn’t slept at all. The Celeste scandal had cost Blackwood Industries forty percent of its value in a week. He looked like a man who hadn’t noticed.

He stared at me from the moment I walked in and didn’t stop.

I didn’t look back.

Three Elders presided, ancient and unreadable. The Chief Elder, a woman with reading glasses on a silver chain, reviewed

the files.

“This is a blood-claim and custody tribunal. Alpha Blackwood petitions for paternal recognition and joint custody of the

minor heirs, Leo and Iris Whitlock. Healer Whitlock contests. Begin.”

Kane’s advocate rose first – polished, expensive, fluent in winning. “Honored Elders, my client is the blood father of Alpha-born heirs. Under the old laws-

“Honored Elders.” Maeve stood with the calm of a woman who had never lost a case she cared about. “We do not dispute

blood. We dispute worthiness. And we have brought the record.”

What followed was methodical and devastating.

The wire transfers: four million in inheritance gold, never repaid, never acknowledged, absorbed into his empire like rain

into sand.

The healing logs: three transfusions, my blood, my hands, my name on every page.

The broadcast transcript: “Celeste. She never left my side.”

The visitor logs: twice. Once with photographers. Once with a gift basket.

The Lunar Times spread crediting another woman for my miracle, with me as “aspects of his care.”

The texts. Wear gray. Stand near the back. She doesn’t want to clash.

The guest room. Four months of a pregnant Luna sleeping alone down the hall

The unmarked neck. Five years of marriage without a mating mark, because the bite was “barbaric” – entered into evidence beside photographs of every Luna he’d ever publicly honored, all of them marked by their Alphas within a month.

The timeline: the night I rejected him before five hundred witnesses, and the documented fact that in five years of marriage, he had attended exactly zero of my surgeries, my award ceremonies, my anything.

The chamber was silent except for the fluorescent hum.

And Kane sat motionless through all of it. He didn’t object. He didn’t whisper to his advocate. He just sat there, absorbing each exhibit like a man standing in freezing rain, refusing to seek shelter.

“Honored Elders,” Maeve concluded, “Healer Whitlock does not ask this Council to punish Alpha Blackwood. The truth has already done that. She asks this Council to protect two children from a father who has demonstrated, through years of documented behavior, that he is incapable of seeing anyone but himself.”

The Chief Elder turned to the other table. “Response?”

Kane’s advocate hesitated, glancing sideways. Kane shook his head once.

Then he stood up..

“Honored Elders. May I address the Council directly?”

The Chief Elder’s eyebrow rose. “That is unusual, Alpha Blackwood.”

“I know.” His voice was low, stripped of every boardroom polish I’d ever heard in it. “But my advocate can’t say what I need o say.”

She studied him for a long moment. Then she nodded.

“Briefly.”

Kane buttoned his jacket. Unbuttoned it. The nervous habit I knew from a thousand board meetings.

Then he turned – not to the Elders.

To me.

“Sage.
