She Took My Seat, He Took Her Side, I Took Another Man Chapter 06

The gown was embroidered with delicate pearls, its hem soaked through with mud and rainwater, heavy and dragging against the floor.

Sebastian Cross stepped out and returned shortly with a set of folded clothes, placing them on the bed.

“Change into these first. The sizing might not be perfect, but they’ll do for now.”

It was a cream-colored blouse and a pair of trousers.

I stood up. “Mom, help me with the zipper.”

My mother paused for a second, then reached out and unzipped me. The wedding dress slid from my body and pooled on the floor. I stood on it for a second. Then I bent down, picked it up from the ground, folded it

neatly, and set it at the corner of the bed.

The clothes were a full two sizes too big. The sleeves hung past my hands, swallowing them completely, wrapping me up snug and secure. My mother rolled the cuffs up for me, and as she looked at me, tears began falling again. “You’ve been so wronged.”

“No,” I shook my head. “It’s way more comfortable than that dress.”

Dinner was made by Sebastian himself. Every single dish on the table was something I loved. Sebastian was always like that-whatever I liked, whatever I didn’t, he remembered every detail clearly.

Sebastian was the first real benefactor I met when I entered the business world. My first-ever collaboration project was with his company. The night I downed nine straight glasses of whiskey at that dinner, he was there. He was the only one who ever looked at me with sympathy.

After the dinner ended, several men with leering, indecent expressions started making their way toward me.

Sebastian grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me into his car. I slept that night in a hotel nearby. He was afraid something might happen to me, so he hired a private doctor to watch over me the entire night.

After that night, Sebastian asked me if I wanted to come work at his company. The offer he gave me was ten

times better than anything Dominic ever offered. But back then, I only had eyes for Dominic. I turned him

down.

Now I finally knew how utterly stupid I had been.

After dinner, Sebastian led me to the master bedroom. Right. I had already agreed to remarry him. Sharing a room wouldn’t be anything strange.

But he didn’t stay. He left the master bedroom entirely to me. “Get some sleep. I’m right next door.”

When he said that, I froze for a second.

Sebastian turned and started walking out. Just before he stepped through the door, he stopped in his tracks.

“Sienna, you just poured your energy into the wrong person. Loving someone can blind you to a lot of things.

That’s not stupidity. That’s human.”

I stared at the tabletop, and a sudden ache flooded my nose. I thought I had already cried myself dry today,

but my eyes wouldn’t cooperate-they stung, hot and disobedient. I turned my face away, not wanting him to

see.

Sebastian pulled the door shut behind him as he left. “Go ahead and cry. No one’s watching.”

I tried to tug the corner of my mouth into a smile, but the tears still fell anyway.

Seven years. I had always thought I had saved up enough. Enough of what he wanted from me. Enough of

what he wanted me to become. Enough reasons to keep him faithful. But now I finally saw it clearly-it had

all just been a one-woman show. My own solo performance.

I didn’t sob or wail. I just lay there, crying quietly. One tear. Then another. Falling onto the pillow, bleeding into

a small dark circle.

The next day, Sebastian and I went and got our marriage license. Two little booklets clutched in my hand. The weight I’d carried in my chest last night had already faded a great deal.

“The wedding is next week. I’ve already arranged everything. If you have any thoughts or opinions, you can tell me anytime.” Sebastian sat in the driver’s seat. While waiting at a red light, one hand on the wheel, the

other hand reached over and held mine.

My hand instinctively stiffened. He immediately let go.

“Still not used to me?”

I didn’t deny it. Spending seven years with someone at my side, and then suddenly that person changed-of

course it wasn’t something I could get used to right away.

Sebastian pulled his hand back. “When you get used to it, tell me. I’ll be waiting.”

I gave a soft “Mm.”

A week later, it was our wedding.

I never imagined that Dominic would show up.
