The Luna Who Forgot Her Pack Chapter 08

The Luna Who Forgot Her Pack Chapter 08

Late that night, a faint whimpering woke me. I opened my eyes. Scarlett had crept into my room. Moonlight filtered through the curtain crack, illuminating her tear–streaked face.

Seeing I was awake, she stumbled over and wrapped her arms around my leg. sobbing. ‘Mommy… I’m sorry… don’t go. please… I don’t want you to leave…”

I looked down at her. She’d called me a stupid woman. She’d wished Grace was her mother. Now she clung to me, crying like a lost animal.

I bent down and pried her small fingers off, one by one. I’m not your mother.”

Scarlett’s head shot up, her eyes wide with disbelief.

“Your mother is Grace. You chose her yourself.”

“No! No!” She shook her head frantically, trying to grab onto me again. “I want you! I don’t want her! Mommy, don’t leave

me!

My voice was cold. “Go back to your room.”

The next morning, chaos erupted downstairs. Ethan was pushing Grace toward the front door. “You have to go. Now.”

Grace clung to the doorframe, her nails digging into the wood. “Ethan! I’ve been with you for years! You’re throwing me

out for her? I’m not leaving!”

Ethan pried her fingers off one by one, his voice cold as ice. “When you were teaching my daughter to hate her mother. did you think this day would come? When you showed me those doctored photos of Elara, did you think this day would

come?”

Grace was shoved out the door and fell onto the steps. She wore that rumpled white dress, her hair a mess makeup smeared. The once–polished woman was now just an empty shell.

I leaned against the railing, watching the scene, and thought they were perfect for each other. One selfish and weak, the other ruthless and calculating.

A pity they couldn’t ruin each other completely.

I went back to my room and started packing. A few clothes, my father’s pen, the tear–stained diary, and the newly filed

divorce papers.

As I passed the living room, I tossed my wedding ring onto the coffee table.

Ethan sat on the couch. He looked up when he heard the sound.

He saw the ring He saw my suitcase

He shot to his text. “Where are you going?

I didn’t answer I walked toward the door

“Elara” He caught up and grabbed my arm. “You can’t leaver

I looked at his hand on my arm, then at his face. “Let go of me

Not Listen to me

Tet. Go‘

My voice was soft, but it landed heavily, One by one, his fingers loosened and fell away.

I’d barely pulled the door open when Scarlett came running down the stairs and threw herself at the doorway. “Mommy! Mommy, don’t go Tears poured down her cheeks.

I didn’t stop

Behind me, Scarlett’s cries grew louder, more piercing, until they became a piercing cry.

Ethan stood in the doorway. He didn’t follow.

In the car, I sent the last batch of evidence to my lawyer. I wanted it all. The evidence. The child stayed with him.

Outside, the sun was blazing. I rolled down the window. The wind carried the scent of early summer.
