My Pack Ditched Me on the Holiday. Now, I’m Out of Reach. Chapter 05

To make up for yesterday’s promise, and to keep me from blaming Ruby for her mistake-my family got up before dawn the next day.

They stood outside my bedroom, waiting to retake the family portrait with me.

I usually woke up at seven.

But by nine, my bedroom door was still closed.

My parents exchanged a look.

Then they nodded at Silas to knock.

He walked over and pounded on my door. “Selene, get up. We’re going to take the photo. Hurry up. Mom, Dad,

and I are all waiting for you.”

He called for a long time.

No answer.

He couldn’t help muttering, “She didn’t drink another glass of spiked milk and pass out again, did she?”

The moment the words left his mouth, the three of them turned to look at Ruby.

Ruby flinched.

Then she started insisting she was innocent, swearing over and over that she hadn’t done anything. “It wasn’t me. I didn’t do anything. If you don’t believe me, check the security footage.”

Yesterday, my parents had protected her in front of me.

But privately, they’d given her a harsh scolding.

“Selene is family no matter what. She’s part of this family too.”

“If we ever catch you doing something so reckless again, don’t blame us for cutting ties with you.”

Ruby had already regretted it.

Hearing this, she kept nodding.

She promised to change.

With the possibility of me being drugged again ruled out, my parents used the spare key to open my door.

The room was empty. They all froze.

Luna Elena and Alpha Victor’s faces flickered with guilt, then shock, then anger.

“We already promised to make it up to her. And she just left without a word? Unbelievable. This ungrateful girl is going to kill me one day.”

The more Luna Elena ranted, the angrier she got.

She picked up her phone and called the photography studio.

“Hello, we’d like to cancel our booked family photo session. Yes, we’re not coming.”

Then she ordered Silas to call me.

Her chest heaved with rage. “Tell that ungrateful brat to get back here right now! Or else she’ll never be

allowed back into our pack!”

Silas called again and again, but every call failed. They couldn’t even scent me.

“Mom, I can’t reach Selene. What do we do?”

Elena slammed her hand on the coffee table, sending a teacup flying and shattering on the floor.

“How dare she? Now she won’t even answer her phone?”

She opened her phone and started scrolling through old texts.

Finally, she found the group chat at the bottom of the list-the one that included me.

She sent a flurry of messages.

Then she tried to tag me.

But after scrolling through the member list for a long time, she still couldn’t find my avatar.

Ruby timidly reminded her from the side.

“Mom, don’t bother. I think Selene already left the group chat.”

The words hit Luna Elena like a thunderbolt.

She repeated Ruby’s words in a low voice.

“What did you say? She left the group chat? How is that possible?”

When I first came home, I’d desperately wanted to join that group chat.

But Luna Elena had always worried about Ruby’s feelings.

So she’d kept putting it off, refusing to add me.

To get into that group, I’d begged her for days.

I’d even gotten up early every morning to make breakfast for the whole family.

Eventually, unable to bear my pleading anymore, she’d followed Ruby’s suggestion.

She’d made a show of adding me to the chat.

Then she’d secretly made a new family group chat without asking me.

Back then, I’d struggled so hard to get into that old group.

And now I’d left it so easily.

Luna Elena stood there, dazed, a hint of unease creeping in.

She suddenly realized that I might not have left on a whim.

Then something seemed to occur to her.

She called my school’s Lupus advisor.

“Hello, Mr. Lupus. I’d like to ask which school Selene applied to.”

When Elena heard the answer, her vision went dark.

She nearly fainted.
