He Left Me Behind, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 04

He Left Me Behind, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 04

……

I finished my burger, paid the bill, and walked outside.

The street slowly came alive as the lights turned on, with rows of stalls selling all kinds of food.

I walked slowly, catching the smell of fish and chips, tacos, and corn dogs drifting through the air.

I ate my way from one end of the street to the other before finally pulling my phone out of my bag.

Twenty-three missed calls.

All from Adrian.

There were also dozens of WhatsApp messages.

I didn’t open any of them.

Without thinking much, I opened WhatsApp Status and wanted to post a picture from the Night Market.

A photo of the fish and chips stall.

Freshly fried fries, still steaming and filling the air with that irresistible smell.

But instead, I saw that Grace had posted nine photos.

The caption read:

【Briarwood Old Town is breathtaking at night.】

I opened the photos one by one.

The first was a fountain at Briarwood Old Town, glowing beneath the night sky.

The second was a tray of rainbow donuts.

The third was a selfie.

She was smiling brightly, her eyes curved into little half-moons.

My finger stopped moving.

It was Adrian’s back.

He was standing by the bridge, looking down at his phone.

The lights cast half of his face in shadow and half in brightness.

Beside him was her arm, holding the donuts.

My finger hovered over the screen for a few seconds.

Then I exited.

What surprised me was how calm I felt.

Before I fell asleep on the train today, I had actually woken up once.

Still half asleep, I heard him making a phone call.

His voice was lowered.

I only caught a few words.

“Made it.”

“Don’t worry.”

“I know.”

I thought he was talking about work.

But now that I thought about it…

The person on the other end was probably Grace.

Every time he traveled somewhere far, he had to check in with her.

Once, when we went on a business trip together, he got off the plane and texted her first.

Made it.

Only after that did he message his mom.

I had been standing beside him when I saw it.

I didn’t say anything.

And he never explained.

……

My phone vibrated again.

A new message came in from the Family Group Chat.

“Looks like you two had a great day! Send us some pictures. Nora, come tell us how it went. Don’t let Adrian be the only one posting.”

“Adrian went against his family to take you on this Destination Wedding trip. Why are you still giving everyone this attitude?”

“Exactly. Everyone has been asking all day. Are you pretending you don’t see it?”

Then Adrian’s mom sent her angry message.

“Family Members have asked you questions over and over again. Is this how you show respect? We agreed to this marriage because you seemed so well-behaved and sensible back then. But now that you’ve married into this family, you’re already giving everyone an attitude? @Nora, answer us!”

I stared at those messages for a long time.

This afternoon, they were still telling me how lucky I was.

Now, I had gone from being the “lucky wife”…

to the outsider who was “causing trouble.”

Without hesitation, I tapped the screen and left the group chat.

Five seconds later, Adrian’s call came through.
