He Left Me Behind, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 01

He Left Me Behind, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 01

On the third stop of my Destination Wedding trip with Adrian, I overslept and missed my stop.

By the time I woke up, he was already gone.

I unlocked my phone.

There were 99+ unread messages in our Family Group Chat.

【You two are having the most romantic trip!】

【Nora is so lucky to have Adrian. She said she wanted a destination wedding, and Adrian pushed back all his meetings just for her.】

【He’s spoiled her for five years. He gives her everything she wants. Now all they need is a baby, and their life will be perfect.】

Message after message followed, all repeating the same thing:

【Nora is so blessed.】

I scrolled upward and saw the travel photo Adrian had posted half an hour ago.

The location tag showed exactly where we were supposed to go next:

The entrance of Briarwood Old Town.

Someone in the Family Group Chat tagged me, asking me to say something sweet.

I replied with a simple:

“?”

The next second, Adrian’s private message popped up.

【You have time to scroll through your phone, but you still haven’t caught up? Where are you? I’m by the rock garden in Area A. Bring me a bottle of water while you’re at it.】

I stared at those words for five seconds.

Then I let out a quiet laugh.

So he still hadn’t realized I never got off the train.

……

When Adrian’s call came through, I was standing at the station exit, checking the map.

I stared at his name flashing on my screen for three seconds before answering.

“Where are you?”

There was the sound of tourists talking in the background, along with a child crying somewhere nearby.

“It’s packed over by the rock garden. Walk east. There’s a donut stand there. I’ll wait for you.”

I didn’t say anything.

“Hello? Can you hear me?”

“I can hear you,” I said.

“Then hurry up. What’s taking you so long?”

He hung up before I could respond.

I stood there for a moment.

If this had happened before, I would have called him back immediately.

I would have explained that I was exhausted and accidentally overslept.

I would have explained that I never meant to make him wait.

But this time, I simply put my phone away.

I walked over to a nearby store and bought a bottle of water.

The owner glanced at me a few extra times while handing me my change.

He probably thought I was fearless for coming alone to a place this remote.

But it wasn’t that I was fearless.

I was just wondering where I should even begin.

Maybe I should start with today.

Our seats had been right next to each other.

But when he stood up, grabbed his bag, and walked off the train…

He never looked back at me once.

Not even once.

And even now, he still had no idea I wasn’t there.

Or yesterday.

During dinner, he had spent the entire time staring at his phone.

I asked him if he liked the local food.

He just said, “Yeah,” without looking up, and went right back to his messages.

That was when I realized…

From the moment we started this trip, he had been replying to work messages nonstop.

Not once had he given me any real attention.

Or last month.

I had gotten a new haircut.

When I came home and asked him if it looked good, he glanced at me and said, “Looks nice.”

The next morning, right before we left the house, he suddenly asked:

“When did you cut your hair?”

Or last year.

I had a fever of 101.3°F.

I checked my temperature myself and told him I felt hot.

He placed his hand on my forehead and said, “You’re fine.”

Then he went to get medicine and boil some water.

When I woke up burning with a fever in the middle of the night, I had to get up and change the towel myself.

The next day, after my fever went down, he smiled and said:

“See? I told you it was nothing. One day of rest and you’ll be fine.”

Maybe I should go even further back.

The first time I met his parents, his mom made it painfully clear she looked down on me for coming from an average background.

She spent the entire night making passive-aggressive comments.

On the way home, I asked Adrian:

“What did you think of today?”

He said:

“It was fine.”

Over the three years we had lived together, those were the words I heard most from him.

“It’s fine.”

“It’s okay.”

“I know.”

He knew I had a fever.

He knew I changed my hair.

He knew.

He just never cared enough to notice.

Just like today.

He knew I was sitting right beside him.

Yet when he got off the train, he never even noticed I wasn’t there.

I boarded a train into the city.

On the way, my phone rang again.

It was Adrian.

“Where are you? I’ve been waiting forever.”

I looked out at the sky outside the window.

“I didn’t get off the train.”

“What?”
