My Cold-Blooded Alpha Came Home and Found His Younger Self Calling Me Wife Chapter 01

When I came home from work, I found my husband, who was supposed to be away on business, standing in our living room in a navy Lakeside High varsity jacket. His hair was tousled, and his face was so boyish he looked barely eighteen.

But those gray-blue eyes, the curve of his nose, and the faint cedar-and-fir scent clinging to his skin all belonged to Adrian Blackwood. I froze for two seconds, convinced he had dressed up as a student just to tease me.

“Since when did you start pulling tricks like this?”

His ears reddened. Still sounding uncertain, he tried, “Wifey?”

In three years of marriage, this was the first time Adrian had ever tried to spice things up. I had no intention of turning him down. I pushed him onto the couch, leaned over him, and kissed his jaw.

He had no idea what he was doing. His breathing turned ragged, and his hands froze awkwardly in midair. He could not even mask his scent.

But when my fingers brushed the side of his neck, my mate mark gave no response. I stopped cold. Three years ago, Adrian and I had formed a mate bond.

Ever since that day, whenever the real Adrian came close, my mark would heat and my inner wolf would instinctively respond to his scent. The boy in front of me had Adrian’s face and scent, but no bond tied him to me. I was about to demand an explanation when the phone on the coffee table lit up.

A video call flashed across the screen. The contact name was simply Hubby.

The phone continued vibrating in the dim living room. I looked down at the boy pinned beneath me, then back at the caller ID on the screen. For a moment, I could not make sense of what I was seeing.

If the man calling me was really my husband, then who was the young man beneath me, carrying almost the same scent but none of our bond? The boy had seen the screen too. Surprise crossed his face, then gave way to open curiosity, as if he wanted to see exactly how this disaster would unfold.

He wrapped an arm around my waist. Even through the thin fabric of my shirt, the heat of his palm startled me. The untamed scent of a young male wolf spilled into the room with it.

I tried to rise, but he dragged me back down and pressed himself closer to my collarbone on purpose.

“Go on, wifey. Answer it.”

That voice, those features, even the shape of his face could not belong to anyone else. Apart from being twelve years younger, he was Adrian. I drew a breath and answered the video call.

A mature, aloof face filled the screen. Thirty-year-old Adrian wore a black shirt and stood in a suite at The Peninsula Chicago. He had been Alpha of the North Bay Pack for years.

Even through the screen, his Alpha pressure weighed on me. He frowned, his gaze turning sharp.

“Evelyn Carter, where are you? Why are you breathing so hard?”

I steadied my voice and lied without thinking.

“I’m at home. I just finished doing yoga.”

His gaze moved past me, taking in the room behind me.

“Why are the lights off in the living room?”

I was about to claim I had forgotten when the boy beneath me shifted against my body on purpose. His breathy voice carried straight into the microphone.

“Babe, my legs are going numb under you.”

The living room went dead silent. On the screen, Adrian’s eyes turned glacial. His fury pushed him close to losing control, and a trace of wolf fur appeared along his neck.

“Evelyn.”

His voice dropped dangerously low.

“Who is with you?”

I quickly covered the boy’s mouth.

“It was the TV. I’m watching some teen drama.”

Adrian gave a cold laugh.

“Is that right? I’ve moved up my flight. I’ll be home by ten tomorrow morning.”

The call ended. Furious and mortified, I threw the phone aside and seized the boy by the back of his neck.

“Who are you?”

He did not struggle. Instead, he closed his fingers around my wrist, his gray-blue eyes blazing with a young wolf’s defiance.

“I’m Adrian.”

He paused, then smiled.

“Adrian. Eighteen-year-old Adrian.”
