My Love Inappropriate. Her Scandal Take the Blame. Get Lost, Uncle! I Married the Mad Alpha! Chapter 03

By the time I returned to my bedroom, dawn was beginning to break.

After completing the expedited visa application and signing the marriage documents, I collapsed onto the bed in a daze.

I had barely fallen asleep when the familiar scent of cedar reached me.

When I opened my eyes, Adrian was sitting beside the bed, staring at the floor. His shoulders were rigid and his back was taut, as though he were using every ounce of control to contain his emotions.

I had never seen him like this.

In my memory, he was always calm and restrained. Even at the most chaotic Carter family council meetings, all he had to do was stand there and release a trace of Alpha dominance, and the entire room would fall silent.

But now, unmistakable panic flickered across his face.

I was about to speak when he looked up.

“Irene, I need to ask you something.”

His voice was low, but the anger beneath it was impossible to hide.

“Sofia’s scandals were suddenly leaked online. Did you do it?”

I said nothing.

He rose and looked down at me. He had already decided I was guilty. All I could see in his eyes was disappointment.

“You’ve never liked her. The first time she came to the Carter house, you humiliated her at every opportunity. Now that our engagement is official, you refuse to accept it. Destroying someone’s reputation from the shadows is contemptible.”

He pulled back the Alpha dominance weighing on the room, as though he were giving me one final chance.

“Tell me exactly how much you had to do with this.”

I leaned against the headboard and waited until he had finished.

“It had nothing to do with me.”

“Irene.”

“I said it had nothing to do with me.”

My voice was so calm that he frowned.

In the past, I would have argued through tears or exploded in rage and smashed everything within reach. This time, not even the faintest trace of hurt escaped into my scent.

Adrian studied me again and held his phone in front of me.

“There are already more than ten thousand comments under the post. It went up at almost exactly the same time you returned to your room last night. No one saw you during that period, and no one knows what you were doing.”

I glanced at the screen and pushed his hand away.

“Just because the timing matches doesn’t mean I did it.”

“Then who did?” His voice turned colder. “Who else has been watching Sofia so closely and chose to strike right after our engagement was announced?”

I did not answer, because no matter whose name I gave him, he would never believe me.

A few seconds later, I pushed back the covers, got out of bed, and straightened the sheets.

“Adrian.”

“Call me Uncle Adrian,” he cut in, his tone stiff.

I paused.

“Uncle Adrian, are you finished?”

Something shifted in his eyes.

“What’s with that tone?”

“Nothing.” I pushed aside the arm blocking my path. “I just find it strange that you barged into a grown woman’s bedroom before dawn to interrogate me on Sofia’s behalf.”

Adrian fell silent.

That single moment of silence hurt more than any accusation.

I walked to the mirror and watched him in the reflection. He tried several times to speak, but in the end, nothing came out.

After a long while, he finally said, “Sofia is in a terrible state. Leave New York until the engagement gala is over, then come back.”

Before he could say anything else, the bedroom door was shoved open from outside.
