The moment she saw me standing in the doorway, she froze.

Then she yanked the blanket over herself, her face draining of color.

“What are you doing here?!”

I stood there, my mind spinning.

I couldn’t make sense of it.

Cassian and Rowan had spent years catering to her. She only had to call, and either of them would drop everything to come running.

So why was she sleeping with this man?

Then she looked at me. Jealousy burned in her eyes.

“I don’t allow anyone to like you.”

Her lips curled into a smile.

“Since we were kids, everyone was supposed to love me.”

“I don’t care if he’s old, ugly, divorced—the second he started thinking you were actually decent, I couldn’t let that stand.”

“So I slept with him. Now he won’t spare you a second glance.”

A wave of nausea rolled through me. I turned to leave.

Suddenly, hurried footsteps thundered up the stairs.

Cassian and Rowan rushed upstairs one after the other.

Sienna changed instantly. She wrapped the blanket tighter around herself and shrank into the corner of the bed. Tears poured down her face.

“Ava, why did you drug me?”

“I didn’t want to sleep with him. You made me…”

“You hate me because Cassian and Rowan care about me, don’t you?”

“But I never tried to take them from you. I never did anything.” Her voice broke.

She lowered her head and sobbed.

The expressions on both men’s faces darkened at once.

“She’s your own sister.” Cassian finally spoke. His voice carried a vicious edge I’d never heard before.

“You actually drugged her yourself?”

“Ava, when did you become this disgusting?”

Rowan’s eyes were bloodshot.

“I always thought you were just stubborn.”

“I never imagined you’d do something this low.”

They closed in from both sides. Like I’d committed something unforgivable.

I stumbled backward until my heel met empty air.

My body pitched backward. I crashed down the staircase.

Blinding pain exploded through my lower back and stomach. Everything went white.

I curled up on the landing, feeling something warm spreading between my legs. Fear consumed me.

“My babies…” My voice shook.

I reached toward the two men standing above me.

“I’m pregnant. Please… please save my babies…”

Cassian’s gaze fell on me, then he looked away.

“Deal with the bastard in there first.”

He turned back toward the bedroom.

His voice was ice cold.

“As for Ava, the police can handle her.”

Rowan followed him.

Before stepping into the room, he glanced back.

His eyes sweeping from my pale, bloodless face down to the blood pooling beneath me.

He looked away and walked inside.

I was left alone on the landing. The blood kept spreading.

My vision blurred. Then everything disappeared.

A sharp slap landed across my face. My head snapped sideways.

My mother stood beside the bed, pointing at me. Her face was twisted with rage.

“You shameless slut! Pregnant before marriage—have you no decency?”

“And you drugged your own sister?! You’re completely unhinged!”

I said nothing. The pain in my abdomen hadn’t faded.

Rowan stood behind her, his fists clenched.

Without warning, he turned and punched Cassian across the face.

“What the hell did you do to Ava after she came back from overseas?”

Cassian’s head jerked sideways. Blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He wiped it away without expression. Then he looked at me.

“The baby wasn’t mine.”

A stunned silence fell.

They both turned toward me, suspicion curdling into disgust in their eyes. Like I was something filthy.

“Then whose bastard is it?” My mother’s voice rose again.

“You disgusting little tramp! Sienna almost had her life ruined because of you.”

“And you’re lying here carrying some bastard’s child, pretending you’re the victim?”

Cassian looked at me with open contempt.

“You’ve really outdone yourself, Ava. Those six months abroad—you sure kept yourself busy, didn’t you?”

My mother’s tirade didn’t stop. Each word cut deeper than the last.

I tried to explain, but the moment I opened my mouth, my voice shattered into sobs.

I curled against the headboard, clutching the blanket so tightly my fingers hurt.

I couldn’t breathe. It felt like I was drowning in their voices.

I wiped away my tears with the back of my hand. More kept coming.

The nurse had said they might’ve been twins.

I hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell my husband.

Now, everything was gone.

Tears streaked my face. The taste of blood filled my throat.

I looked up and glared at them.

“I’m calling the police. I’ll have every last one of you arrested.”

Cassian stepped forward, looming over me, his eyes devoid of any warmth, any pity.

“The police?” He let out a cold laugh.

“I already called them. But they’re coming for you.”

“You drugged Sienna. You’re going to answer for it.”

“Don’t think lying in a hospital bed and crying a few tears will save you.”

“As for those babies, you think I couldn’t have saved them?”

I stared at him.

He went on, “When they brought you in, the pregnancy was still viable.”

“I told Dr. Vance not to save them.”

“Some bastard whose father no one can even name—what’s the point of keeping it?”

“This was your punishment, Ava.”

“You tried to hurt Sienna. So I made sure you knew exactly what it felt like to lose something.”

Everything inside me stopped. Even my blood seemed to freeze. I couldn’t cry anymore.

My babies… they could’ve lived.

One sentence from him, and he sentenced them to death.

The last bit of strength left my body.

Cassian grabbed one arm while Rowan took the other. Together, they tried to pull me out of the hospital bed.

Then—a commotion erupted outside.

Police sirens echoed in the distance. Rapid footsteps rushed toward the room.

A nurse’s panicked voice came from the hallway.
