After They Sent Me Overseas, I Returned With a Powerful Husband Chapter 05

The nurse’s face lit up the second she saw Cassian walk in.

She looked at me with a grin.

“That’s your husband, isn’t it?”

“I’ll leave you two alone—go on, tell him the good news!”

With that, she carried her tray out, pulling the door shut behind her.

The room fell silent.

I frowned at Cassian. His face was dark, something unreadable stirring in his eyes.

“What do you want?” I said.

He didn’t answer right away.

He stopped beside my bed.

A smile slowly curved his lips. But his eyes held no warmth whatsoever.

“So this is what you wanted? To become my wife.”

I stared at him. “What?”

He went on, “You didn’t correct the nurse.”

“The other night, you were calling another man ‘honey’ over and over in front of Ray.”

“You knew he’d tell me. You wanted me to hear it.”

He leaned over me, bracing both hands against the bed rails.

“You really thought that would make me jealous?”

I looked him straight in the eye, and almost laughed.

“Cassian, I’m serious. I’m married.”

“And you and I have been over for a long time.”

His brows drew together.

Before he could say another word, I cut him off.

“If you don’t believe me, I’ll call my husband right now. You can ask him yourself.”

The screen lit up.

Right on cue, an incoming call appeared. Honey.

My husband was calling.

Relief washed over me. I reached to answer.

A hand shot out beside me and snatched the phone away.

I lunged for it on instinct. Too late.

He flicked his wrist and sent the phone sailing through the window.

A faint crack echoed from somewhere below.

I froze. Then anger hit me all at once. My whole body shook.

I pushed against the bed, trying to sit up so I could slap him.

But my injuries were too severe—the pain nearly blacked me out with every movement.

All I could do was glare at him through gritted teeth.

“What gives you the right to throw my phone?”

Before he answered, a timid voice came from the doorway. “Ava.”

Sienna peeked into the room with a bag of fruit in her hand.

“I came to see you. Are you feeling any better?”

I was in too much pain to answer.

But Cassian changed the second he saw her.

He walked over, took the fruit from her hands, and frowned.

“Why are you here? Wasn’t Coco still in surgery?”

Sienna twisted the hem of her shirt between her fingers.

“Coco bit Ava. I should apologize.”

She hesitated, then added, “And before Mom knew you were Ava’s boyfriend, she already set Ava up on a blind date. They’re supposed to meet tomorrow.”

“I figured, with her leg like this… I could go in her place.”

Just then, a thud sounded at the door—Rowan, arriving late, had bumped straight into the door.

He didn’t even seem to notice the hit.

He strode straight over, his face tense.

“I don’t agree.”

“The guy’s in his forties, divorced—why on earth would you go in her place?”

“I’m not okay with that.”

Cassian’s expression hardened, and the mood around him instantly shifted.

Sienna looked up at them and forced a smile.

“It’s okay. I don’t have a boyfriend anyway.”

“What if he’s actually a great guy? What if we’re a perfect match?”

“Sienna.” Cassian cut her off.

Then, as if catching himself, he softened his tone.

“Don’t talk like that. I’ll talk to your mom. You don’t need to worry about any of this.”

One stood on each side of her. One tried to calm her down while the other argued his case.

Neither of them wanted her to go.

Sienna only shook her head. Her eyes were red.

Her voice never wavered.

“No. My mind’s made up.”

She turned and walked away. Cassian followed without hesitation.

Rowan was the last to leave. He stopped at the doorway and looked back at me.

“Ava. Sienna’s still young. Don’t take it personally.”

“You should go on tomorrow’s blind date. She’s too young to meet a man like that.”

Then he left.

Less than five minutes later, Cassian came back.

He stopped a few feet from my bed.

“You’ll go tomorrow.”

It wasn’t a discussion. It was an order.

“I already talked to your mom. His family agreed too.”

“Sienna isn’t going. You are.”

“You’re older. This was yours to deal with from the beginning.”

“Sure.” I agreed without hesitation.

I never saw the brief look of surprise on his face. Or how quickly it turned ugly.

Over the next few days, I waited for my husband to fly back and take me home.

I also had no interest in seeing those three again.

So I really did go to the blind date.

On the surface, Gregory Nash and I got along just fine.

But the very first day we sat down together, I laid it all out.

I told him I was already married, that my husband was just overseas, and that I was only there to get my family off my back.

Instead of getting angry, Gregory looked relieved.

He admitted he’d only come because his family kept pressuring him too.

I thought that would be the end of it. I was wrong.

After Cassian threw away my old phone, I still hadn’t recovered a lot of my contacts.

I went back to the Monroe Estate, hoping I might have an old backup address book somewhere in my room.

But as I passed by Sienna’s room on the second floor, I noticed her door was ajar.

A muffled noise came from inside. I thought she’d dropped something.

I pushed the door open. Then I stopped cold.

There, on the bed—Sienna was tangled up with Gregory.

Their clothes were disheveled, half undone, the sheets beneath them a crumpled mess.
