She Stole My Comic Ending And My Crush Chapter 14

In mid-June, Kingsley held its senior send-off gala. This year’s event had attracted unusually generous sponsors, and my roommates insisted that I go with them.

During one crowded game, a graduating student pressed a wrapped chocolate into my hand.

“You have to be happy, okay?” she said.

I nodded hard. “And I hope you have an incredible life after graduation.”

The gala ended with a large group dance. Students who knew the choreography joined around the edges

while Keira, Jocelyn, and I stayed near a quiet corner.

When I glanced back, fireworks opened above the lawn.

Beneath them, Adrian held Brielle in his arms. He was tall enough that he had to bend to fit himself around

her.

The crowd surged between us and erased them from view.

“Mira, were you leaving?” Keira asked.

“Yes. You two should stay.

“I wanted one more study session tonight.”

They exchanged a look but let me go.

Back in the silent suite, I opened the practice prompts for my Spanish oral proficiency interview.

The next question asked how often I ate chocolate.

I began my answer in Spanish: “I didn’t eat chocolate when I was a child…”

Before finals week began, I completed the ACTFL interview required for my exchange application. Then I

shut out every distraction and prepared for my exams.

One classmate groaned, “If Mira is studying this hard, the rest of us should probably withdraw now.”

In truth, Kingsley’s math students declared themselves doomed every finals season, whether I was there or

not.

My language result arrived during exam week: Superior.

The Advanced High rating I earned as a freshman had already met the exchange requirement.

I retook the assessment because I wanted to improve, and because Kingsley reimbursed the fee for students who reached Advanced High or above.

After my last final, Keira, Jocelyn, and I celebrated by ordering the most expensive meals the dining hall offered.

In the noise around us, someone mentioned that Adrian and Brielle had broken up.

The news caught me completely unprepared.

My roommates looked at each other.

“It happened during finals,” Jocelyn admitted. “Brielle refused to accept it and made a huge scene.”

“We knew you didn’t want to hear about them anymore, so we didn’t tell you.”

I swallowed and realized too late that I had eaten the roasted carrots I disliked.

“It was fine.”

Keira sighed. “Adrian was one of the math department’s best students.

“Apparently his judgment finally returned before he embarrassed the whole program.”

“Brielle treated him like a status symbol,” Jocelyn said. “She lied whenever the truth was inconvenient, and

he kept shielding her because he was in love.”

I offered no opinion, and they let the subject die.

Packing the suite took longer than it ever had before. Many of my old textbooks were too heavy to move and

too useful to throw away.

Keira suggested selling them at the end-of-term student swap meet.

“Trust me,” she said. “Someone would pay for the rough notes of Kingsley’s favorite math genius.”

She contacted a vendor before I could object.

I carried an entire box to the swap meet and sold most of it for almost nothing.

The freshman running the table was so enthusiastic that I was happy to let the books go.

As I turned away, I saw Adrian walking beneath the trees.

He saw me too and stopped.

Then I remembered something.

I hurried back to the table. “I was sorry.

“There was a black cap at the bottom of that box. I hadn’t meant to sell it.”

The freshman helped me dig until we found it.

“No problem,” she said. “I’m going to sort everything later.

“If I find anything personal, I’ll send you a picture.”

I thanked her.

When I turned around again, Adrian was still waiting.
