The nurse paused. “Type O. Is there a problem?”

Julian’s lips moved a few times before he finally forced out a smile. “No. Nothing.”

But the moment the door closed, it was as if every ounce of strength had been drained from him. He collapsed into the chair, his entire body trembling.

He had type AB blood. Claire had type A blood.

How could the two of them possibly have a child with type O blood?

Veins bulged one by one at Julian’s temples. He fought to suppress his rage, pushed the door open, and strode out.

The hallway was empty, with only the green light over the emergency exit glowing faintly in the dark.

He was about to head toward the restroom to look for Claire when he heard her deliberately lowered voice from the stairwell landing.

“Our son is fine now, and Julian has come back, too. Do not come here. Do not let Julian notice anything is wrong.”

In an instant, Julian’s feet seemed nailed to the floor.

In those few short seconds, rage, disbelief, grief, and several other wildly different emotions exploded one after another inside his chest.

But in the end, all of them turned into guilt toward Sophia.

Back then, he had tricked Sophia into signing the divorce papers because of this child who had supposedly come into his life by accident.

But the child was not even his.

And because he had chosen Claire again and again, Sophia had aborted their own child.

Julian closed his eyes and felt like the biggest joke in the world.

“Ah! Honey, why are you here?”

After Claire hung up, she turned and saw Julian. She was so startled that she nearly dropped her phone.

She asked tentatively, “You didn’t hear anything just now, did you?”

“What was I supposed to hear?”

Julian forced a smile that looked worse than tears “That the child isn’t mine?”

At that, Claire’s face went completely white. She grabbed his arm in a panic. “Honey, let me explain.”

Julian shoved her away and strode out of the hospital without looking back

It was not until he returned to the home he had shared with Sophia that he finally felt like he could breathe.

Julian collapsed onto the couch, everything that had happened over the past few days churning over and over in his mind.

After a long time, he picked up his phone with trembling hands and called his private investigator friend. “Look into Claire for me.”

His friend moved quickly. Early the next morning, a file was sent to Julian’s phone.

Julian opened it and saw that it was filled with intimate photos of Claire and her ex–husband. The child was also her ex–husband’s.

By then, Julian could barely feel anger at that result. What truly crushed him were the shocking truths that followed.

Claire had been the one who leaked the clipped livestream of her and Sophia’s call.

She had been the one who paid trolls to cyberbully Sophia.

The reporters who ambushed them at the nursing home that day had also been called by Claire in Sophia’s

name.

She had even paid people inside the detention center to “take good care” of Sophia.

After Julian finished reading the file, his whole body shook uncontrollably.

Then, suddenly, he raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face.

The crack of it sounded especially loud in the empty living room.

Julian did not stop. He slapped himself again, then again.

His face swelled, and blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, but he still felt it was nowhere near

enough.

None of this could begin to make up for the sins he had committed.

He was a complete bastard.

He had ruined Sophia’s life.

No one knew how much time passed before Julian finally stopped.

He slumped on the floor, gasping for breath, his shoulders shaking soundlessly.

After another long stretch of time, he picked up his phone again and called his lawyer friend. His voice was

so hoarse it barely sounded like him. “Sue Claire. Sue the reporters from The Riverton Daily. Do it now.”

After hanging up, Julian posted a clarification on social media.

The filth he had personally thrown onto Sophia’s name would now be washed away by his own hands, piece by piece.

The clarification caused a massive public reaction the moment it was posted, and Julian was placed on indefinite administrative leave.

He did not care at all.

All he cared about was whether he could still win Sophia back.

The day Claire was served with the lawsuit, she brought her son and knelt before Julian.
