He Divorced Me Six Years Ago Without Me Knowing Chapter 10

An abortion?

Julian kept staggering backward until his back hit the cold wall..

He suddenly remembered the bloodstain spreading across Sophia’s pants when he had seen her at the hospital that day.

At the time, he had thought it was only her period and had not even bothered to show her a little more

concern.

Only now did he realize that it had clearly been blood from Sophia’s abortion procedure, not yet dry.

Grief was like a dull blade, carving into his heart inch by inch.

Julian could not understand why Sophia would have an abortion. She had clearly wanted a child so badly.

Before, they had both been too busy with work, and Sophia had been afraid they would not have time to care for a child, so she had always used birth control.

But after she resigned, she had already started trying for a baby.

Julian still remembered her curled up on the sofa, smiling with her whole face as she wondered aloud who their baby would look like. She had even bookmarked so many baby products.

But she had gone through with an abortion.

Suddenly, as if realizing something, Julian’s body went weak. He slid down the wall and collapsed slowly to the floor.

He understood.

Sophia hated him.

She hated him for deceiving her for six years. She hated him for destroying her reputation. She hated him for

indirectly causing her grandmother’s death.

That was why she had aborted their child.

That was why she had disappeared without a trace.

In that instant, Julian’s tall body curled into itself, as if all the strength had been drained out of him.

Just then, his phone suddenly rang.

The moment he answered, he heard his attorney friend say anxiously, “Julian, are you really going to sue The Riverton Daily? If you do, the truth about you and Claire might not stay hidden.”

At those words, Julian’s fingers tightened around the phone until his knuckles turned white.

He stayed silent for a long time before slowly saying, “Then… pause the lawsuit for now.”

Julian heard how hoarse and unfamiliar his own voice sounded.

After hanging up, he raised his hand and slapped himself hard twice.

His cheeks burned with pain, but it was nothing compared to the agony in his chest, as if someone had carved a piece out of his living heart.

Julian knew he had wronged Sophia.

But things had already come this far. He could not drag Claire and her son into this too and make them suffer online harassment as well.

At the end of the day, if Sophia had not schemed and called those reporters that day, her grandmother would not have been driven to her death.

Julian closed his eyes and forced down the guilt he felt toward Sophia.

He would make it up to her.

He would spend the rest of his life repaying her for the six years he had deceived her.

Right now, the most important thing was to find her first.

Julian let out a heavy breath and braced himself against the wall as he stood.

Just then, his phone vibrated again, and a message from his friend flashed across the screen.

His friend: [Julian, I found something. Seven days ago, Sophia booked a flight to Southport.]

Sophia had booked a flight to Southport?

Julian frowned.

Weren’t all her accounts frozen? Where had she gotten the money for a plane ticket?

Julian stood there for a moment before finally remembering that Sophia had a former law school

upperclassman in Southport.

That man had always treated her extremely well, so well that it had once made Julian quietly jealous.

Had Sophia borrowed money from him?

Had she gone to Southport because of him?

Julian’s expression darkened at once. Almost immediately, he booked the next available flight to Southport.

While he was waiting at the gate, his phone rang again.

Julian stared at the name “Claire Morgan” flashing on the screen. After hesitating for a few seconds, he still

answered

“Honey, where did you go?”

The moment the call connected, Claire’s complaining voice came through. “Our son has a fever again. Come back right now and take us to the hospital.”

In the past, when Julian heard something like this, he would have anxiously dropped everything and rushed back.

But at that moment, Sophia’s quiet face appeared in his mind.

Even though Claire was already the mother of a five–year–old child, she still depended on him for everything.

But what about Sophia?

Julian did not dare think about how she had handled her grandmother’s funeral alone when her accounts were frozen, or how she had gone through the abortion procedure by herself.

And during those three days in the detention center, how had she survived?

The belated ache in his heart kept cutting into him like a dull blade.

“Claire, I need to go to Southport for a few days on business.”

Julian took a deep breath before barely steadying his voice. “Take care of yourself and our son while I’m away.”

“What? You’re going away on business? For how many days?”

Claire’s voice suddenly turned sharp.

Julian felt an inexplicable surge of irritation.

Just then, the boarding announcement sounded over the speakers. He casually comforted Claire with a few words, then hung up.

When the plane broke through the clouds, Julian turned to look out the window at the thick sea of white and silently said to himself, Sophia, once I find you this time, I will treat you well. I will make it all up to you.
