He Divorced Me Six Years Ago Without Me Knowing Chapter 09

“… You really are ruthless to Sophia.”

After saying that, Julian’s friend hung up.

Julian did not take it seriously. He even made breakfast in a surprisingly good mood and casually turned on the morning news.

He was not being cruel. He only wanted to find Sophia as quickly as possible.

Julian thought that once he found her, he would make it up to her properly.

However, his good mood vanished the moment he saw the news.

On TV, the anchor was reporting in an inflammatory tone, “Star attorney Sophia Bennett exposed as the other woman, driving her paralyzed grandmother to her death!”

Julian froze for a second. Then he rushed to the television in disbelief and stared hard at the screen.

On the screen, Sophia was collapsed on the floor, holding her grandmother and crying as if her heart had been torn apart. The image pierced Julian’s heart.

In that instant, Julian could no longer hear a single word the anchor was saying.

He stared blankly at the television, his mind completely empty.

How could Sophia’s grandmother be dead?

Hadn’t Sophia been the one who called those reporters that day?

What exactly had happened after he left?

Julian stumbled as he grabbed his car keys and rushed out of the house.

He sped the entire way.

The drive should have taken an hour, but he made it there in thirty minutes.

Julian found the director of the nursing home and had him pull up the security footage from Sophia’s

grandmother’s room that day. He clearly saw how those reporters had cornered Sophia after he left.

“Ms. Bennett, we heard you used to be a top attorney who specialized in helping wronged wives recover marital assets spent on mistresses. So why did you become the other woman yourself?”

“Your grandmother looks like she’s in very poor health. Does she know you’re the other woman?”

“Quick, get more shots of the old lady. Top attorney’s ex–wife becomes the other woman and sends her paralyzed grandmother into a fatal collapse. This is going to be huge.”

Every word from those reporters had once cut into Sophia’s heart like a knife.

Now those voices came through the screen and sliced Julian’s heart just as brutally.

He watched helplessly as Sophia’s grandmother trembled with rage until she stopped breathing. He watched as those reporters still shoved their cameras into Sophia’s face after the old woman died, snapping photo after photo without stopping.

Julian could not hold back anymore. He slammed his fist into the wall, and blood seeped from his knuckles.

Then, with trembling hands, he called one of his attorney friends and said through gritted teeth, “File suit against the reporters from The Riverton Daily immediately.”

After hanging up, he asked the court for time off and began using every connection he had to search for Sophia.

Twenty minutes later, a friend sent him a message and a clip of security footage.

His friend: [Julian, Sophia came here a few days ago to choose a burial plot, but her payment kept failing, so she left.]

Julian looked at the timestamp on the footage and suddenly remembered that it was the same day Claire had sued Sophia and all of Sophia’s accounts had been frozen.

Through the screen, he watched Sophia’s face, pale as paper, and felt as if something had clenched hard around his chest.

He remembered now. It was after that day that he had seen Sophia at the hospital.

Had Sophia been sick?

Julian rushed to the hospital like a madman, holding Sophia’s photo as he asked nurse after nurse, “Hi, do you remember this woman?”

Finally, one nurse remembered her. “That young woman… I think a kind passerby brought her to the hospital after she fainted. She was so pitiful. She was pregnant, and not a single family member was with her.”

Sophia had been pregnant?

Julian froze for a moment, his voice tightening. “I’m her husband. Are she and the baby okay? Which room is

she in?”

At that, the nurse looked at him, and sympathy crept into her voice. “She had an abortion. A few days ago, she came back to the room to pick up her things, and then she was discharged.”
