When we got home, Damon went to shower.

I lay in bed, playing a mindless match-three game on my phone.

A few minutes later, he walked out of the bathroom.

A ridiculously short towel hung low on his hips.

I glanced up.

His cool-toned skin still glistened with droplets of water.

His broad shoulders tapered into a lean waist, and the necklace I’d given him rested against his collarbone.

His dark eyes stayed on me as he calmly walked over.

Without a word, I looked away.

Damon didn’t seem ready to give up.

He lingered near the bed, prowling back and forth.

With every step, the towel slipped a little lower.

I stubbornly kept my eyes on my phone.

Meanwhile, my heart was on fire.

Stay strong.

If I caved now and clung to him again, he’d only get sick of me even faster.

The victory chime from my game rang out.

Before I could react, my phone disappeared from my hand.

The next thing I knew, Damon had caught both my wrists in one hand and pinned me to the bed.

His eyes darkened. His voice came out low and rough.

“Baby. I told you I’d make it up to you tonight.”

Then he kissed me. His lips were cool, but the kiss burned.

The moment his tongue parted my lips, my hands instinctively clenched into fists.

When we finally broke apart to breathe, I turned my head just in time to dodge the next kiss.

“My period isn’t over yet.”

His expression immediately darkened.

Without any mercy, he nipped my lower lip.

His voice turned icy.

“Nerissa. So you got what you wanted, and now you’re over me?”

Before I could answer, he had already let go and stood up.

“Forget it. I don’t need your pity.”

He turned to leave.

At the worst possible moment, the towel gave up entirely.

Determined to stay true to my new, restrained persona, I heroically turned my head away.

Damon’s face went completely dark.

Through gritted teeth, he muttered, “Seriously?”

Then he stormed off.

A second later, he came back. Picked up the towel. And walked out again.
